Conversations with Friends is the latest Hulu original series, following on the tails of its highly successful predecessor, Normal People.

If Frances’ heart-wrenching drama spoke to you at all, you may be wondering if this Sally Rooney adaptation is getting renewed for another season.

What is Conversations with Friends about?

Conversations with Friends is a romantic drama centering the life and loves of college student and writer, Frances (Alison Oliver).

Based on the novel by Sally Rooney, the Hulu series follows Frances’ complex relationship with her ex-girlfriend-turned-best-friend, Bobbi (Sasha Lane). When the students develop a friendship with older couple Melissa (Jemima Kirke) and Nick (Joe Alwyn), Frances and Nick complicate this dynamic by having an affair.

Has Conversations with Friends been renewed for season 2?

At the time of writing, Conversations with Friends has not been renewed for a second season.

The season finale gave us a pretty conclusive ending to Frances’ story. Added to that, the show is based on a book that ends much the same way–and the book has no sequel.

There’s certainly potential for a second season that details what happens next in the polyamorous relationships between Bobbi, Frances, Nick, and Melissa. However, we still predict that Conversations with Friends will not be renewed for a second season.

What we know about season 2 so far:

Hulu has not green-lit a sequel to Conversations with Friends, but that doesn’t mean a spin-off is off the table.

Still, if Hulu is going to try its hand at more Sally Rooney adaptations, it will likely turn to Rooney’s other novel before giving Conversations with Friends a sequel. Her latest book, Beautiful World, Where are You, was released last year and could benefit from another Hulu/Alice Birch team-up.

  1. I know there’s no sequel to the novel this series was based on, yet I would enjoy a second season. If written well, in the same style, doing all the characters and their multifaceted personalities shine. Why? I, like my fellow commentators, am invested. It, too, has become my guilty pleasure and I can’t help coming back for more. I am especially invested in the relationship between Nick and Francis. Their love, chemistry, vulnerability, awkwardness, and cuteness with one another touches my heart. I would love to see more. However, if there should never be a sequel to this series, I shall be contented with this ending which has left the storyline open to the possibilities my mind shall give it.

  2. Does nobody get it. That’s the end. Its not about who she chooses. It’s a beautiful end. It all works out. As much as I can’t comprehend how that could work in my existence, in their’s thats life. Of course he comes and gets her. And they have love too. And maybe there’s fall out. Maybe there’s not. But that’s most definitely the end, without an end. Her mums quote in the pub in the last episode is it all, you can’t choose how it works out, you make choices, but not the end. It is such a beautiful, powerful, incredible show. The acting, with so little said, and yet captures emotion so fully.
    Despite all this I still came here wondering if there was a second show? So I am absolutely the same as everyone else !

  3. Yes, a season 2 would be appreciated! But sounds like an unlikely scenario. But here’s to hoping! Really enjoyed season 1!

  4. There is no purpose for season one if you will not follow it up with how you ended the last episode with a cliffhanger!! If there was never an intention for season 2 why not have a definite ending?? Season 2 Hulu or you will lose a lot of frustrated watchers!!

  5. Would love to see what happens next…binge watched season 1 and invested in the characters. Good ol’ cliffhanger at the end…girl can’t make up her mind! Has to be Nick….

  28. I agree . Second series is a must! Surely that ending ‘Nick, come get me!’ leaves it open for a second series . So compelling to watch! I loved it!

  33. I would love to see a second season of conversations with a friend. It is so compelling and the characters are so well written and multidimensional, more please.

  34. Needs to be a season 2 the way it ended makes you think there will be. Especially after she just got back with Bobbi that wouldn’t make since to not make a season 2
