Renewed Or Cancelled?
Blockbuster did not live up to the billing of its title for Netflix. The streaming service recorded poor viewership numbers for the sitcom based on a reimagining of the last Blockbuster store in the world after the corporate chain went bust. With names like Randall Park and Melissa Fumero on the roster, expectations were high. But season 1 was a huge disappointment, leaving viewers with a sour taste.
However, that is not the end of the road for Blockbuster. Shows have had weak debut seasons (The Office) and gone on to become successes. With that in mind, we bring you the latest about a potential season 2 for Blockbuster in this renewed/canceled news article.
What is Blockbuster about?
Randal Park plays Timmy, the manager of the last Blockbuster store on earth, and the season begins as he takes over the reins to start off on his own. His group of employees (Eliza, Kayla, Connie, Carlos, and Hannah) stand by him as the rebuilding process starts.
The central storyline revolves around the various activities the characters do in the workplace and the challenges Timmy faces running a business on his own. The prolonged arch for the season includes an impending solar storm that might help the store and the “will they won’t they” dynamic between Eliza and Timmy.
Has Blockbuster been renewed for season 2?
The answer right now is no. Netflix takes a call typically after four weeks have elapsed from the date of airing. Creator Vanessa Ramos has been somewhat active in interview circles promoting the show. She revealed that she has already made rough plans for the storyline in season 2 and even wants to film at the actual location of the Blockbuster store in Bend.
Well, that’s not going to happen now. In a recent article put up by Deadline, it has now been confirmed that Blockbuster has been officially cancelled.
What we know about season 2 so far:
That is pretty much it. A bit here and a bit there. Season 2 should ideally pick up in the aftermath of the chaos at the store after the solar storm actually disrupted internet services in the area.
Like Blockbuster itself, this one has now shut-up shop and is closed permanently. Unless another studio is willing to take on the load, it seems this is the end of the road for Blockbuster… again.

Cute, heartfelt show, very watchable. Not promoted well in advance of airing, and I think that has caused its viewership problems.
I hope it’s renewed, because there is zero closure as of episode 10.
Bring on Season 2 please.
I really wanted to like this show. On paper it has so much going for it. But it just falls short.
