What is Black Butterflies about?

Black Butterflies is a psychological thriller, which starts slowly before intermingling the past and present together in a cleverly woven story about family, loyalty – and murder.

Our protagonist is Adrien, who’s a down and out writer who’s hired by Albert Desiderio, a humble retired man, who decides to hire a novelist to write his memoirs. But as Albert diverges his bloody past he shared with lover Solange during the 70’s, things soon take a turn for the dark.

Has Black Butterflies been renewed for season 2?

At the time of writing, Black Butterflies has not been renewed for a second season. Given the nature of the show’s content, that could well change if it does good numbers for Netflix.

Generally Netflix gauge numerous metrics before renewing a show, including how many people initially watch it and then looking at the drop-off rate. With some shows, cancellations or renewals happen quickly (ala. Squid Game, Bridgerton & Irregulars) Other times, it can take months before Netflix make a decision over a show’s future.

So far, Black Butterflies has had a very positive reception with critics and audiences lavishing praise on this one, with the show currently doing a great job hitting the top 10 on Netflix across various regions across the world.

However, given the show has been billed as a limited series and the story is pretty much done, we’re predicting that Black Butterflies will not be renewed for a second season. This is the perfect sort of show to binge through but the story does come to a rounded conclusion at the end, even if there are a couple of loose ends.

What we know about season 2 so far:

Barely anything is known about season 2 at this point, given Netflix have not green-lit a sequel. However, one could argue there’s scope for another season.

With Albert dead and Adrien presumably behind bars, we could see a time jump with little Roman heading in to see his father at prison. We could also see Mathilde start to dive into Catherine/Solange’s history and try to arrest her too.

As mentioned above, we predict that this will not be renewed but we’ll be sure to update this page in the future when more information is known though!
