A Model Family is Netflix’s latest thriller, with 10 easily-bingeable episodes and some deliciously shocking twists along the way.

If you’ve been following this one, you may be wondering if this has been renewed or cancelled.

What is A Model Family Season 1 about?

A Model Family centers on Park Dong-Ha, a hardworking but poverty-stricken guy. He does his best for his family and attempts to get a promotion by bribing one of the professors. Unfortunately, the money he uses is supposed to be for his son’s heart surgery, and it backfires spectacularly.

Desperate for money, Dong-Ha strikes luck on the way home from work, noticing two bags of money in the back of a car. The two men inside are dead. After taking the money and burying the bodies in his own back garden, Dong-Ha unwittingly tumbles head-first into the seedy underbelly of crime, and in particular the Sangseon and Yongsoo Drug Rings.

Kwang-Chul, the second-in-command for this drug ring, starts to investigate, leading him to Dong-Ha’s back garden. Only, it also brings officer Joo-Hyun there too. Will Dong-Ha come out of this on top?

Has A Model Family been renewed for season 2?

At the time of writing, Netflix have not renewed A Model Family for season 2. Given the ratings and (annoying obscured!) viewership figures, it’ll be interesting to see if they actually do renew this for a follow-up.

Netflix do have a good track record with renewing their original K-Dramas, with Kingdom, All Of Us Are Dead and Squid Game all receiving second season orders. This is one of the more consistent areas of Netflix’s model and A Model Family lends itself nicely to the same treatment. Based on this, we predict that A Model Family will be renewed.

What we know about season 2 so far:

Barely anything is known about season 2 right now. Most Korean dramas are reserved to one season, but of course, as mentioned above Netflix shows (Love ft. Marriage and Divorce, Hospital Playlist etc.) do tend to be renewed.

Given how similar the story structure is to shows like Breaking Bad and Ozark, it would seem that Netflix is attempting to rekindle what made those shows so great, adding a Korean flavour to proceedings.

There is certainly scope for more of this story to be developed, with both Kwang-Chul and Dong-Ha diving deeper into this seedy world. With that in mind, we believe this will be renewed.

  4. Bring in season 2 ,korean thrillers adds a very atmospheric and dread that are so well executed you know after each episode you have had an experience

  7. Seems like much is still out there hanging and unresolved. One would think appropriate for a Season 2 of this very intense drama. Would love to see a season 2.

  8. I certainly will be disappointed to not have closure on this Netflix show. Leaving viewers hanging is unfair and ridiculous to do. We need an appropriate ending, a fair finale.

  10. I hope the 2nd season renewal will come true, end of season 1 left so many issues unanswered! I was very excited and intrigued to watch all episodes in a binge!
