Renewed Or Cancelled?
American Rust is a slow burn murder mystery, with some similarities to Mare Of Easttown. However, unlike Kate Winslet’s excellent murder mystery, Rust is more of an acquired taste. The murder mystery does ease up for more of a small town drama, with plenty of characters to boot.
What is American Rust about?
American Rust is based on Philipp Meyer’s novel of the same name, exploring the tattered American dream through the eyes of police chief Del Harris, who runs the town of Buell in southwest Pennsylvania. When one of his fellow officers is killed, an investigation is launched.
Alongside this though are several other subplots, including unionization, drug addicts, runaways and crooked officers.

Has American Rust been renewed for season 2?
At the time of writing, American Rust has not been renewed for a second season. However, given the open conclusion and numerous unanswered questions, that could well change.
According to tvseriesfinale, ratings for the show have been pretty steady, topping out at 0.394 mil viewers. Of course, this isn’t counting any international distribution, with the show due to air on Sky Atlantic in the UK on 28th November.

What we know about season 2 so far:
Barely anything is known about season 2 at this point, given Showtime haven’t announced whether this has been renewed or not. However, the ending leaves plenty of possibilities for the future. We could well see Del Harris try to stop Isaac from giving in evidence. Del Harris could also find himself behind bars, thanks to the incident up in Pittsburgh.
Or it could even come down to Virgil destroying Grace’s perfect arson attack and getting her in a lot of trouble.
There’s definitely a lot of different ideas and story beats American Rust could explore, but it’s all speculation at this point.
