Renewed or Cancelled?
The Ruth Wilson-led drama, The Woman in the Wall, has drawn to a close. Season 1 of the show was first released in the UK last year and had a strong run in the US which recently concluded. It is a fine addition to Showtime’s growing catalogue of thrillers with a meaningful element of drama and social discourse. Creator Joe Murtagh and the writers balanced the scales really well to give us a wholesome show revolving around Ireland’s infamous Magdalene laundries.
We have covered Season 1 of The Woman in the Wall on our website through weekly recaps and an ending explainer for its finale.
If you’ve been watching this one, you may be wondering if this has been renewed or cancelled. Here’s what we know so far:
What is The Woman in the Wall Season 1 about?
Season 1 of The Woman in the Wall is set in the picturesque town of Kilkinure, an hour away from Dublin. Father Percy Sheehan, who was closely associated with the convent, is found dead in his house. His green car is stolen and later found in Kilkinure, which brings DS Colman Akande to the town for further investigation. His paths cross with that of local woman Lorna Brady, who is one of the unfortunate victims of the convent which was operated as a mother and baby home in the 80s.
Brady is part of a group of survivors fighting for justice. She has gone through a lot of suffering and trauma since being separated from her newborn daughter Agnes at the time of birth. However, she still hopes to find her one day. Aoife Cassidy, a former nun who used to work at the convent, comes back into town. She meets up with Clemence, Lorna’s best friend at the convent, and offers her some revealing insights about where her daughter might be.
However, before she can contact Lorna, Aoife is found dead…by Lorna in her own house. But she has no idea how Aoife got there or what happened prior! This becomes the base for Season 1 of The Woman in the Wall. The narrative takes substantial strides and progresses on both fronts of Lorna’s search for Agnes, Aoife’s disappearance, and the case of Sheehan’s murder.
Has Tracker been renewed for Season 2?
At the time of writing this piece, The Woman in the Wall has neither been renewed nor been cancelled at BBC for a second season. Despite the positive reception, we remain uncertain that this could change in the coming weeks.
Generally, BBC and Showtime, like other streamers and network cables, gauges numerous metrics before renewing a show, including how many people initially watch it and then looking at the drop-off rate. With some shows, cancellations or renewals happen quickly (ala. Only Murders in the Building, Dark Winds etc.) Other times, it can take months before streamers decide a show’s future.
Season 1 of The Woman in the Wall was commissioned as a limited series. In its present form, the story feels complete without further need for a follow-up season. Ruth Wilson, its central star, has also remarked on her satisfaction at what the team has achieved in the standalone instalment. So it is very unlikely that The Woman in the Wall will return for Season 2.
Almost half a year has passed without any chatter of a renewal. It is best to assume that going forward, this will most probably not change. We will update this page if more information becomes available.
What do we know about Season 2 so far:
Not much is known about The Woman in the Wall Season 2 as BBC has not officially renewed the show. However, if that does happen, we can expect the new instalment to continue the plot from the first season.
We don’t have any idea about what the storyline might be at this point, but if it is to develop fully, the ingredients need to be in place to create a compelling string of episodes.
That is all the information we have for our readers at this point. If we get a renewal, expect the new season to come out sometime in 2026. Or maybe even later depending on what BBC’s catalogue looks like.

Fantastic show, hope to see another season. Perhaps with all three of the main characters, Lorna, the detective and Sarge chasing down the story.
