Renewed or Cancelled?
CW and CBC’s Wild Cards recently concluded its maiden run. The fun crime-solving procedural stars Vanessa Morgan and Giacomo Gianniotti in the main roles. The show’s buddy cop humor and the chemistry of the leads are the main attractions in Season 1.
Wild Cards follows a typical crime show format where Max (Morgan) and Cole (Gianniotti) have to solve a new case in each new episode. If that is your thing, this show is well worth checking out.
We have covered Season 1 of Wild Cards on our website through weekly recaps and an ending explainer for its finale.
If you’ve been watching this one, you may be wondering if this has been renewed or cancelled. Here’s what we know so far:
What is Wild Cards Season 1 about?
Season 1 of Wild Cards revolves around the unlikely pairing up of two people on the opposite side of the law. Max is a wanton con artist having been caught in a big case trying to dupe a rich Italian woman. Although she claims it was to help out a needy worker being held hostage, Max is punished for breaking the law.
Cole Ellis has lost his badge as a detective in the metro department. An unfortunate incident involving his brother led him to get emotionally involved with (and ruin) a case.
They are paired up by Chief Li and Commissioner Russo to solve new cases every week as they try to achieve personal goals. Max wants her probation to end and her father’s sentence to be commuted. Ellis wants the badge back and the reckoning as one of the city’s best cops.
Wild Cards sees the duo involved in several new cases with an overarching dramatic narrative to mark their journeys.
Has Wild Cards been renewed for Season 2?
Wild Cards has been renewed at The CW and CBS for a second season.
Generally, The CW and CBS, like other streamers and network cables, gauge numerous metrics before renewing a show, including how many people initially watch it and then looking at the drop-off rate.
Season 1 of Wild Cards has done reasonably good numbers for the networks. It maintained an average viewership of nearly 0.5 million throughout its run, signalling the continued interest from fans. The ratings from the critics were also quite good. Wild Cards recorded a 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Given all these positives, it’s unsurprising to see Wild Cards get a second season. We will update this page if more information becomes available.
What do we know about Season 2 so far:
Not much is known about Wild Cards Season 2 as The CW has only recently renewed the show. However, we can expect the new instalment to continue the plot from the first season.
Season 1 ended with Max and Ricky duping Ellis by stealing the Imperial Egg and making a plan to escape the country. However, as Max learns about the identity of Daniel’s killer, she decides to go to Ellis’ boat. Daniel is Ellis’ brother. He has been obsessed with his death for years, and it could potentially form a big part of the next season’s plot.
That is all the information we have for our readers at this point, other than to expect the new season to come out sometime in late 2025.

Love this show! It’s the highlight of the week – clever, amusing and reminds me of “Moonlighting,” with terrific chemistry between Ellis and Max! Looking forward to watching each episode multiple times, since I kept the recordings on my TV menu. Definitely bring this one back – it’s a winner!
Would love to see more coverage of the cast, show, etc. in magazines like “TV Guide,” “People.”
