Renewed Or Cancelled?
Welcome to Samdal-ri is a well written and highly enjoyable slice of life drama, bringing together an amazing cast and a highly enjoyable storyline. If you’ve been following the season and finished all the episodes, you may be wondering if this has been renewed or cancelled. Here’s what we know:
What is Welcome to Samdal-ri Season 1 about?
Welcome to Samdal-ri is a slice of life drama that revolves around two predominant characters who grew up together on Jeju Island. Yong-pil is a quiet kid who’s content with his life. He’s a weather forecaster on Jeju Island and wants to spend his life just drifting on by and enjoying the ride.
By comparison, Sam-dal is eccentric, outgoing and incredibly ambitious. She has big plans to spread her wings and head over to Seoul… and she does! Despite making a big name for herself, Sam-dal’s life is turned upside down when a big scandal involving her boyfriend and assistant at work causes her to retreat and head back to Jeju Island.
We have ongoing coverage of Welcome to Samdal-ri across the site including recaps for the season. You can check those out HERE!
Has Welcome to Samdal-ri been renewed for season 2?
At the time of writing, JTBC have not renewed this one for season 2. Given the ratings over the weeks, it’ll be interesting to see if they actually do renew this for a follow-up.
JTBC and Netflix tend to use a variety of different metrics to gauge whether a show is renewed, including completion rate and minutes watched. It’s also worth noting that this one has grown in popularity over the weeks and is now hitting around 10% ratings which is great for weekends.
Despite the strong ratings, it’s extremely rare to find Korean dramas renewed for another season. That has changed in recent years with Netflix Originals, but given the sheer wealth of talent in this that are sure to move onto other projects, we predict that Welcome to Samdal-ri will not be renewed for a second season.
We’ll be sure to update this section with more details as they become available though.
What we know about season 2 so far:
Barely anything is known about season 2 right now. Given most Korean dramas are reserved to one season, it’s rare to find these sort of shows renewed. With the exception of ongoing Netflix shows (Love ft. Marriage and Divorce, Hospital Playlist etc.) then it seems unlikely that this one will be renewed.
There’s certainly scope for this to expand out and evolve though, and it would be great to have a time-jump and see these characters in the future, maybe even with Yong-pil and Sam-dal with their own kids.
Given how well-received this one has been, could we see this one buck the trend? It seems unlikely but you never know! We’ll be sure to update this section when we know more.

I would love to have a season 2 of welcome to samdalri cause the writer did not show how the 2 of the sisters love life ended hope that they will continue and show the love story of the two sister’s of Cho Sam dal
No in the strongest way.
One of the major draws of Kdrama is the one season format. PLEASE don’t ruin it.
I escaped from American series and their never ending, or sudden cancellation format. I would hate to see the same thing happen to Kdrama.
I want to start a show with the knowledge that I get an end after 16/20 episodes. Once multiple seasons format start become the norm this will be gone. Then shows become just 10 episodes and you never know whether they will last one or 10 years.
I would really love to see a second season. My family and I fully enjoyed the show. It was great to relax on the weekends with the families of Samdal-ri, and there stories that they brought to life every weekend. Full of drama and hart felt Situations.
The writers, directors and producers of most of these shows are unbelievable of their thought process and how they are able to patray it on screen. All the actors have done such a beautifu and amazing job in having you feel what they are going through being able to make you want to come back every weekend, Just to watch and see what happens to their lives and how things unfold. They are a fantastic group of actors that you find yourself rooting for them to succeed in whatever it is that they are going through. It really makes you feel like you’re part of their family Without even realizing. As you are watching.
Thank you for a beautiful show. I do hope that they will decide to make a second season. Of Samdal-ri
