Vortex is a well written and enticing crime drama, sprinkling in bits of time travel and a gripping whodunit throughout the 6 episodes.

If you’ve finished watching this one, you may be wondering if this has been renewed or cancelled. Here’s what we know so far:

What is Vortex Season 1 about?

The story centers around Ludo, a police investigator that has the perfect life. His job is good, his wife Melanie is happy and content, and the couple are very much in love, living out their life alongside their daughter, Juliette. However, all of this changes when Melanie heads out for a run one morning. Instead of her returning, it’s Nathan, Ludo’s best friend at the police station he works at, who rocks up and tells him that Melou has died.

Fast forward to 2025 and Ludo is called to the scene of a crime that’s eerily similar to that of Melou’s. A woman called Zoe Levy has died on the same beach, and happens to be wearing the same pearl ring. Armed with future tech that allows one to recreate a crime scene in virtual reality, Ludo pops on his glasses… and sees Mel running.

It turns out he can actually communicate with her and together, they set out to find the killer. But with 11 days until Mel is due to die, will they do it in time? And what consequences could this have for them?

Has Vortex been renewed for season 2?

At the time of writing, Netflix have not renewed Vortex for a second season. Given the nature of this series, that could change if it does good numbers for the streamers.

Generally Netflix, like other streaming platforms, gauge numerous metrics before renewing a show, including how many people initially watch it and then looking at the drop-off rate. With some shows, cancellations or renewals happen quickly (ala. Squid Game, Bridgerton etc.) Other times, it can take months before Netflix make a decision over a show’s future.

So far, Vortex has had a pretty good reaction from audiences and critics alike, with the series easy to watch and also armed with some great writing throughout.

However, the story is pretty much done and it seems unlikely that it’ll be back for more, given it was originally airing on French TV. With all that in mind, we predict that Netflix will not renew Vortex for a follow-up season. Now, that could change but this seems more like a one and done affair.

What we know about season 2 so far:

Not much is known about season 2 at the time of writing, given Netflix have not officially renewed this one yet. Should the streamers decide to greenlight this one, it’s fair to assume that Mel and Ludo will both return, potentially split across different timelines once more.

It’s likely that Netflix will make an official announcement several months from now, once the final viewing figures are in, but for now we’ll have to wait and see. We’ll be sure to update this section with more information as it becomes available.
