Renewed Or Cancelled?
Virgin River is a soapy, melodramatic drama, full of different character issues and problems affecting the residents of Virgin River, an idyllic location with some breathtaking views.
With the fifth season now over, you may be wondering if this has been renewed or cancelled. Here’s what we know so far:
What is Virgin River season 5 about?
Virgin River season 5 wastes no time picking up after the dramatic events of season 4. Now that Mel is expecting her baby, Jack and Mel hope for a happily ever after However, more drama ensues when Hope loses her Mayor title thanks to a vote of no confidence, and Doc’s eyesight starts to worsen.
If that wasn’t enough, a wildfire threatens to engulf Virgin River completely, while the ongoing drug feud with Melissa and her enterprise hits fever pitch.
Has Virgin River been renewed for season 6?
At the time of writing, Netflix have renewed Virgin River for a sixth season, which is hardly surprising given the excellent retention rate this series has had over the years.
Generally Netflix, like other streaming platforms, gauge numerous metrics before renewing a show, including how many people initially watch it and then looking at the drop-off rate. With some shows, cancellations or renewals happen quickly (ala. Squid Game, Bridgerton etc.) Other times, it can take months before Netflix make a decision over a show’s future.
It was announced ahead of time that Virgin River has been renewed, and that’s before mentioning that season 5 has been split into two parts, with two more episodes scheduled to drop later on down the line.
There’s lots more Virgin River to come and the ending to this first part certainly opens the door for the story to grow in unexpected directions.
What we know about season 6 so far:
Not much is known about season 6 at the time of writing, given Netflix have only recently renewed this one. According to Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos, we can expect season 6 to grace our screens sometime in 2024. Expect all the cast and crew to return, while the story involving Mel and Jack deciding to buy Ava’s farm and start a family having a big impact on where things go from here.
Of course, there’s also the situation involving Lizzie’s pregnancy and Doc’s clinical trial too.
Production on season 6 has only just begun, following the strike resolutions. So we don’t have a release date yet, but we’ll update this page as soon as more information is known!
