Has Twisted Metal been renewed for Season 2? Here’s what we know:

Renewed or Cancelled?

Twisted Metal is a ten-part series from Peacock based on the video game of the same name published by Sony. Although the series is not a direct adaptation, most of the characters from the game have been incorporated into the story. Anthony Mackie and Stephanie Beatriz lead the cast and the duo makes for a great pairing on the screen. The first season released all episodes at once on Peacock’s platform. The colourful and quirky universe of the series has been appreciated by many viewers. But will Twisted Metal return for a second season?

If you’ve finished watching this one, you may be wondering if this has been renewed or cancelled. Here’s what we know so far:

What is Twisted Metal Season 1 about?

Twisted Metal is the story of a “Milkman” called John Doe (Mackie). A Milkman is a delivery maker who is always on the road and never stops to take a rest.

The show’s universe is set in a post-apocalyptic reality about 20 years from the time when a mysterious bug failed all electronic systems in the world. This descended the civil system into chaos and mania. Cities were walled up and all the criminals were dumped outside to fend for themselves. John is called inside the city by Raven, the COO of New San Francisco.

This is in itself a huge deal for him as it is out of the ordinary. She offers him permanent residency within the city if he brings a package for her from New Chicago all the way out in the East. John instantly agrees to make the delivery and sets out on his journey. Along the way, he meets a traumatized outlaw, whom he fondly calls Quiet. Their friendship starts out of convenience but it soon turns into something more as they discover hard challenges and meet new characters from the post-apocalyptic era on the road.

Twisted Metal has a distinct universe with quirky and interesting characters. We have broken down all the episodes in our recaps that you can start reading here.

Has Twisted Metal been renewed for Season 2?

At the time of writing, Peacock has not renewed Twisted Metal for a second season. Given the nature of this series, that could change if there is some positivity from the viewers and Peacock shows some urgency.

Generally, Peacock, like other cable networks and streamers, gauges numerous metrics before renewing a show, including how many people initially watch it and then looking at the drop-off rate. With some shows, cancellations or renewals happen quickly (ala. Squid Game, Bridgerton etc.) Other times, it can take months before streamers like Peacock make a decision over a show’s future.

Season 1 of Twisted Metal has received very positive reactions, more so from the viewers than the critics. Since the show’s universe is based on the video game, many have found the familiarity element to be compelling. The addition of new characters and representation of the original has been strong and done for casual enjoyment.

We are going out on a limb and predicting this one will be renewed. Why? Just because of how the first season ended and how much we liked it. A second season is likely to be in the offing, a sentiment that was resonated by Anthony Mackie, the show’s star, in a recent interview.

“I’m excited about a second season. I think when people see the show, the characters have developed in such a way that you get attached to them; that you enjoy the banter between all of them.” Stephanie Beatriz also commented on her “wish” to get a second season, but knows how tough the television landscape is currently. “If we’re lucky enough to get a Season 2, I’m excited to see how the world continues to flesh out because there’s so little of it you’ve actually seen. Even though you’ve gone across the United States, the Wild Midwest, you haven’t seen a ton.”

There is certainly a lot to explore still in the universe. Moreover, the second season could feature a setup like the PlayStation format, which would result in hardcore and non-stop action for viewers. You can catch many such comments from the technical team and cast of the show here.

We’ll be sure to update this section with accurate details over the coming weeks and months when we know more!

What do we know about Season 2 so far:

Not much is known about season 2 at the time of writing, given Peacock has not officially renewed this one yet. Should the streamers decide to greenlight a second season, it’s fair to assume that we will pick up in the aftermath of what happened at the end of the series.

With regards to Season 2, we will probably see a racing tournament similar to that in the video game. The first season ended with Raven assigning another task to John (to compete in the tournament) and we saw the participants who were selected as well. They included Watts, Mary, and even The Preacher which would mark a mouth-watering reunion with John.

Great job to the entire cast, the writers and the entire team. I hope we get to see a season 2 and more of the characters personalities. 5. 90’s kid here and Twisted Metal was my jam growing up! I fell hard for the characters on the game and I strongly feel this was overdue! I adore Sweet Tooth and feel as though he was captured beautifully in this remake. I’m definitely gunning for a season 2, because I have a strong feeling they aim to capture even more details of the game like the contraption axel as I knew him or John as he is titled in tv series is placed into. If this is anything like the video game, buckle up because it’s gonna be one hell of a ride! 🤡 ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥
