Renewed Or Cancelled?
The Walking Dead favourites, Rick and Michonne are finally back with a whole show just revolving around them! Yep, years after their exit from the iconic zombie series, they return to lead the spin-off The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live.
The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live’s ensemble cast includes some familiar names such as Andrew Lincoln as Rick, Danai Gurira as Michonne and Pollyanna McIntosh as Jadis. Alongside them, the show stars Lesley-Ann Brandt, Terry O’Quinn, Craig Tate and Matthew August.
This 6-episode series has been quite the rollercoaster ride and given its intriguing premise, it is too good to be a one-hit-wonder. Well, while watching the show, you may be wondering if this has been renewed or cancelled. Here’s what we know:
What is The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live about?
This mini spinoff series delves into what Rick has been doing all those years after he gets captured by the CRM. Thankfully, he is not dead but working for the CRM and toeing the line. But their leader, Major General Beale has his eye out on our sheriff.
Meanwhile, Michonne tags along with a group of stragglers who give her hope as she always seems to be out of Rick’s reach as she searches high and low for him with his abandoned bag as the only clue.
We have ongoing coverage of The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live on the site, including recaps for all episodes. You can find those HERE!
Has The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live been renewed for season 2?
At the time of writing, AMC has not renewed The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live for season 2.
Despite being a critical hit, it will take a while before we get a renewal update. Generally AMC, like other cable networks and streaming platforms, gauges numerous metrics before renewing a show, including how many people initially watch it and then looking at the drop-off rate.
It does seem that we will not be getting a season 2 since The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live has been billed as a mini series which usually has a 1-season run. However, not all hope is lost as creator Scott M. Gimple has teased that the future is not set in stone. The mini-series was initially a movie to wrap up the stories of Rick and Michonne. And even if the finale has a resolute ending, Gimple claims that “Anything is possible.”
What we know about season 2 so far:
Barely anything is known about The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live season 2 at this point, given AMC has not green-lit a new season. However, there is always enough material for a new season from Rick’s and Michonne’s many unseen adventures to the origin of the CRM. And as far as spin-offs go, with this one being the sixth spin-off, there is always potential for any one of the tons of TWDverse characters to have their own story.
But this is all speculation as nothing has been confirmed yet. We will update this page when more information becomes available.
