Renewed Or Cancelled?
What do you think happens if you dump hundreds of kilos of cocaine in one of the poorest villages in Europe? If your answer to Turn of the Tide’s pressing conundrum is “party hard and work harder to sell your gear for cold, hard cash”, you’ll be pretty close to the premise for Netflix’s latest Portuguese series.
If you’ve finished watching this one, you may be wondering if this has been renewed or cancelled. Here’s what we know so far:
What is Turn of the Tide Season 1 about?
Our setting here is the beautifully idyllic Azores, a bunch of isolated islands away from the prying eyes of the mainland with a thriving shipping community. Eduardo, Silvia and Rafael and Carlinho are our main characters, and each are desperate to escape their current predicaments and find and do more with their lives. When 9 million euros worth of cocaine washes up in Sao Miguel, it changes everything for these four.
It’s quickly established that the foursome manage to get their hands on 397 kilos, which is roughly worth 23,820,000 euros – if they can sell it. Naturally, the kids set up their business and decide to make some cash. However, Detective Frias is sent to retrieve the gear, while drug lord Monti (whom the drugs apparently belong to) is desperate to retrieve his stash too.
As the series progresses, we dive deeper into each of the characters and their past, while also discovering the teens’ fate.
Has Turn of the Tide been renewed for season 2?
At the time of writing, Netflix have not renewed Turn of the Tide for a second season. Given the nature of this series, that could change if it does good numbers for the streamers.
Generally Netflix, like other streaming platforms, gauge numerous metrics before renewing a show, including how many people initially watch it and then looking at the drop-off rate. With some shows, cancellations or renewals happen quickly (ala. Squid Game, Bridgerton etc.) Other times, it can take months before Netflix make a decision over a show’s future.
So far, Turn of the Tide has had a pretty good reaction from audiences but more mixed from critics, with the series easy to watch but also rather cliched too in the way its story plays out.
With all that considered, and Netflix’s intent on branching out into more international areas, we predict that Netflix will renew Turn of the Tide for a follow-up season. Now, that could change but this seems like another series that’s ripe for the adventure to continue, especially as Silvia and Eduardo in particular are endearing characters that could see more development going forward.

What we know about season 2 so far:
Not much is known about season 2 at the time of writing, given Netflix have not officially renewed this one yet. Should the streamers decide to greenlight this one, it’s fair to assume that we’ll be back with our characters as they continue their plight with the drugs.
It’s likely that Netflix will make an official announcement several months from now, once the final viewing figures are in, but for now we’ll have to wait and see. We’ll be sure to update this section with more information as it becomes available.

I started watch Turn of the Tide and at first I thought it wasn’t going to be a very good ; but even before episode one was over I couldn’t wait to watch the next episode ; each episode just got better and better ; Really hoping Netflix says go one season 2 and I can’t wait to watch all episodes of season 2 ; say yes Netflix ;

Towards the last episode of season 1, it did get a bit cliched, but I hope there is a season 2!
I hope there is a season 2 as there was a few loose ends that need tying up. The fact the girl with pink hair is pregnant, who’s the dad. That mafia guy seems to doge bullets all the time. I reckon they left that open for him to continue chasing the boys in America.
I would be let down if we didn’t get a second season or more series to the first! I love based on true events and want wore of turn of the tide!! Please ❤️
Exceptionally good series! Great story line, acting and a beautiful location! Some recognisable stars on the show like uncle Joe who was in Narcos!!

Enjoyed very much. Having been to the Acores and married into a Portuguese family, there is a lot familar. Minus the drugs of course. Hoping for a season 2. Great characters and writing.
I did not think that I would enjoy it but as it turns out I loved it. It’s exciting suspenseful and sexy. It certainly holds your attention and you can’t wait to watch the next episode.

We enjoyed Turn of the Tide very much. Eduardo, Silvia and Carlinho are interesting characters that we would like to see more of. They have struggled so much in life and deserve good fortune. We hope there is a season 2. Too much is unresolved at the end is season 1.
