Has Transatlantic been renewed for Season 2? Here’s what we know:

Renewed Or Cancelled?

Transatlantic is the latest historical drama airing on Netflix, with great visuals and an interesting – albeit slightly cliched – narrative. After finishing the whole series, you may be wondering if this has been renewed or cancelled. Here’s what we know:

What is Transatlantic Season 1 about?

The story takes place in Marseille, right in the heart of France. With refugees stuck from all over Europe, the town has turned into a melting pot of foreign influence. Unfortunately, that’s not to the liking of the local police, nor to the Germans who are swiftly increasing their efforts in invading France.

At the heart of this is Mary Jayne, an American woman who works for the Emergency Rescue Committee. Alongside a charismatic man named Varian Fry, they work to try and save as many refugees as they can, smuggling them on boats, leading them over the mountainous region into Spain and any other way they can think of.

Standing in their way happens to be Frot, the police chief, who works alongside American opportunist Graham Patterson to detain and arrest them before they can leave Marseille.

This sets up a cat and mouse game of sorts, as the authorities work to try and catch the refugees, while Varian and Mary Jayne work together to try and evade them, and simultaneously save as many as they can.

Has Transatlantic been renewed for season 2?

At the time of writing, Transatlantic has not been renewed for a second season. Given the nature of the show’s content, that could well change if it does good numbers for Netflix.

Generally Netflix gauge numerous metrics before renewing a show, including how many people initially watch it and then looking at the drop-off rate. The completion rate is one of the most important metrics though, as recently revealed with the shock cancellation of 1899. One could argue the short run-time is to ensue more people watch the show.

However, with some series, cancellations can take months before Netflix make a decision over a show’s future.

So far, Transatlantic has had a pretty mixed reaction from critics and audiences alike, with some lamenting the story itself, while others pointing at the tonal clash between comedy and drama.

Given the way this show is set up, we’re predicting that this will not be renewed for a second season. The story feels pretty complete by the time the credits roll, especially given we receive a bite of expository text to inform us how the war plays out, which feels like a decent conclusion to this show.

However, we’ll be sure to update this section with accurate details over the coming weeks and months when we know more!

What we know about season 2 so far:

Barely anything is known about season 2 at this point, given Netflix have not green-lit a sequel. If this is renewed, expect our characters to return, with Paul and Albert helping with the resistance effort, while Mary Jayne, presumably, tries to influence the war effort from the US.

As mentioned above, we predict that this will not be renewed but we’ll have to wait and see what happens. We’ll be sure to update this page in the future when more information is known though!

  1. It’s brilliant show, loved everything about it, yes it’s true story of course but the way it was written and adapted I would hope it would have a second season.
