Renewed or Cancelled?
Justin Hartley (This is Us) headlines CBS’ new drama procedural show, Tracker. The network is pinning its hope on a proven pedigree of talent but the show is more than just its charming star. Tracker made its debut after the Super Bowl final and has created a buzz already. The show’s format is attracting a lot of positive attention and is in a category that usually ends up doing quite well.
If you’ve been watching this one, you may be wondering if this has been renewed or cancelled. Here’s what we know so far:
What is Tracker Season 1 about?
Season 1 of Tracker revolves around Colter Shaw, a rewardist/tracker who goes around the country in his truck and RV, tracking down missing persons. He is supported by a team comprising Teddi, Velma, and Bobby, who assist him on the cases. Each new episode delves into a new case in a new state. Colter is a lone wolf with a wretched past with family dysfunction.
The overarching narrative of the show follows Colter’s scars emanating from his parents’ difficult marriage. He tries to run away from everything that happened by constantly being on the road and helping strangers. Although Ashton, his father, is presumed to have fallen off a cliff to his death on a particularly rainy night, Colter believes that his older brother, Russell, might have pushed him. Mary, Colter’s mother, has kept some secrets from his son about Ashton and the circumstances around their separation.
Has Tracker been renewed for Season 2?
UPDATE: Tracker has been renewed. Season 2 will arrive on October 27, 2024.
At the time of writing this piece, Tracker has neither been renewed nor been cancelled at CBS for a second season. Given the positive reception, this could change in the coming weeks.
Generally, CBS, like other streamers and network cables, gauges numerous metrics before renewing a show, including how many people initially watch it and then looking at the drop-off rate. With some shows, cancellations or renewals happen quickly (ala. Only Murders in the Building, Dark Winds etc.) Other times, it can take months before streamers decide a show’s future.
Season 1 of Tracker is still very fresh, having just started its bid recently. The viewership numbers have been very positive for the first two episodes. It is currently CBS’ highest-rated show in the new catalogue of offerings for this year. The first reviews from critics place it at 87% on Rotten Tomatoes. The viewer reception has been equally encouraging. It remains to be seen if the average ratings have been affected by the Super Bowl final or not.
The pilot premiered right after the final and that could have had a hangover effect. We will update this page as more information is available.

I absolutely LOVE this show and it is soooo exciting!!! I look forward to it EVERY week when I tape it. Was so disappointed not to see it yesterday for Episode 5…. PLEASE renew it quick! :)
