Tokyo Override is the latest Netflix anime, taking place in a futuristic world with plenty of drama, action and a couple of twists along the way. Across the 6 episodes, this one’s definitely a fun thrill ride, even if it is a bit rushed at times. If you’ve finished watching this one, you may be wondering if this has been renewed or cancelled. What is Tokyo Override about?

Our protagonist here is a plucky orphan hacker who’s not part of the system (colloquially referred to as an untagged) called Kai. She works as a runner, helping to ferry drugs or goods between the districts by hacking into the Walls and evading detection. All of this eventually catches up to her when she finds herself in the clutches of a drug run and the authorities, called the NARCs. 

With the NARCs after her, Kai finds herself unwittingly joining a rebellion group who are pinned for the murders of untagged individuals cropping up in the districts. The rebels need to clear their name, but unfortunately the nefarious leader of the NARCs, Lizard, is closing in.

As the show continues, these two storylines inevitably converge into a plot about the wider world and a bigger conspiracy, where home truths are revealed and a nice twist toward the end shows the true dystopian core of this world, hidden beneath the glossy, bright façade on the surface.

Has Tokyo Override been renewed for season 2?

At the time of writing, Tokyo Override has not been renewed for season 2. Generally Netflix would gauge numerous metrics before renewing a show, including how many people initially watch it and then looking at the drop-off rate.

With some shows, cancellations or renewals happen quickly. Other times, it can take months before a decision over a show’s future is made. So far, Tokyo Override has had a pretty good reaction online from critics and audiences alike, with many pointing to the tone and style of this one as really solid inclusions.

Given the way this show is set up, and the ending we receive, we’re predicting that this will be renewed for a second season. The ending leaves the door wide open for a potential follow-up, especially with drama involving Kai and Leuji heading off to parts unknown.

However, we could be completely wrong too, so take our prediction with a pinch of salt!

What we know about season 2 so far:

Barely anything is known about Tokyo Override season 2 at this point. The ending does have a solid conclusion but it’s ambiguous enough to leave things on a note where extra drama could ensue. What do the other districts feel about this “glitch” that caused all the roads to go haywire? Was anyone hurt?

But then we also get the potential for Kai and the others being mixed up in another set of deliveries that could lead to dangerous outcomes, we’ll have to wait and see!
