The Trunk is another exciting Netflix Original K-drama that graced our screens this year. Said to be a thriller version of the fake marriage trope, it has exciting themes of psychological mind games, murders, betrayals and social commentary on marriages.

The series stars Gong Yoo, Seo Hyun-jin, Jung Yun-ha, Kim Dong-won and Jo Yi-gun, and is helmed by filmmaker Kim Kyu-tae known for Moon Lovers and Hotel Del Luna. With shocking revelations and plot twists, the season finale had viewers on the edge of their seats.

If you’ve watched the first season and want to know if there will be a second, this article has all the details you’re looking for.

Here’s everything we know:

What is The Trunk Season 1 about?

The Netflix K-drama follows Han Jeong-won, a music composer and a pill popper whose insomnia gets worse when his wife, Lee Seo-yeon divorces him after an incident. Unable to see him spiral, Seo-yeon requests him to get into a contract marriage with a stranger. Believing that she will take him back if he does it, Jeong-won complies.

Noh In-ji is a stoic woman whose heart has turned cold after an incident ruined her engagement. She now works for a contract marriage company and her latest fake husband happens to be Han Jeong-won. As she tries to make the fake marriage work with an uncooperative Jeong-won, a missing trunk and a figure from her past threaten to ruin everyone involved in the strange arrangement.

Has The Trunk Been Renewed for Season 2?

At the time of writing, Netflix hasn’t announced a season 2 for The Trunk.

While the Korean TV industry is changing its format, we are yet to see multiple-season K-dramas as a norm. Sure, we have multiple seasons of Netflix Original K-dramas like Sweet Home and Kingdom, but it honestly depends on the streaming platform and if Korean productions are interested in picking up the show for a season 2.

Netflix also tends to look at views and drop-off rates before renewing or cancelling the show, along with the critical success. Some shows are instantly renewed like One Piece and Bridgerton while others take years such as The Watcher and The Victim’s Game.

Unfortunately, it seems that the show won’t be renewed at the moment since it has been labelled as a limited series.

What do we know about The Trunk Season 2?

Not much is known about The Trunk Season 2 at the moment given that it has not been greenlit. We will most likely not get another season as a limited series only has 1 season. But if by some miracle, The Trunk is renewed, we could see Jeong-won and In-ji getting together or Seo-yeon trying to make it work with Ji-o. It could also turn into an anthology series with another set of clients involved in fake marriages and mysterious circumstances.

If the show does return, you can expect a season with approximately 8 episodes, each lasting around an hour. However, nothing is confirmed yet, but we’ll be sure to update this page as soon as any new information comes in.
