Renewed Or Cancelled?
The Forbidden Marriage is the latest historical K-drama that combines comedy and melodrama to give us a fun and entertaining plot. And with it being based on a webtoon, of course, readers would wish for the K-drama to cover all 100+ chapters.
Well, after finishing the whole of season 1, you may be wondering if this has been renewed or cancelled. Here’s what we know:
What is The Forbidden Marriage about?
Following the death of his wife, the grieving King Lee Heon announces a marriage ban. In comes So-rang a brash and outspoken con artist with a mysterious past that hints that she is not who she says she is. She pretends to be possessed by the King’s wife so that he can get closure, let her go and lift the marriage ban.
Well, with it being a rom-com, the two start falling for each other. And it would not be a K-drama without a love triangle so we have Shin-won, the King’s best friend who cannot help but shake the feeling that he has seen So-rang somewhere. Meanwhile, the sinister Minister Cho and Lady Seo scheme to control the kingdom.

Has The Forbidden Marriage been renewed for season 2?
At the time of writing, The Forbidden Marriage has not been renewed for a second season.
Its network, MBC has some hugely popular K-dramas as evident with 2022 giving us one-season wonders like The Red Sleeve and Big Mouth. However, despite their popularity, we don’t usually get a season 2 for cable network K-dramas.
There are some exceptions like the iconic 2016 drama Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo which is getting a spin-off 7 years later. But at the moment, it seems unlikely that The Forbidden Marriage will be renewed for a season 2.
What we know about season 2 so far:
If we do get a season 2, it could follow the webtoon it is based on. It could also break away from the source material if the writers want to create a new story based on season 1.
We would love to see more of Hwa-yoon and Shin-won given that we only got a glimpse of the power couple they would be in the season 1 finale. Or if we go by the end credits, who knows a second season could follow the lives of the children of our favourite couples.

Very entertaining drama with enough comedy to make me laugh out loud. Spectacular settings, costumes and wonderful actors. Great fight scenes also. A combo of past Korean culture and Jane Austen novels- just superb!
