Currently airing on Channel 4 in the UK (and available on catch-up), is The Change, a brand new comedy-drama series starring actress-comedian Bridget Christie.

Christie, who is the brains behind the show, stars as 50-year-old Linda, a put-upon mum and housewife who, after forgetting what a shoe is called, becomes convinced that she has early-onset dementia! But when Linda visits her doctor, she is given the reason for her forgetfulness: she is going through menopause.

If youā€™ve finished watching this one, you may be wondering if this has been renewed or cancelled. Hereā€™s what we know so far:

What is The Change Season 1 about?

When Linda learns of the menopausal changes her body is going through, she decides to embark on a ‘change’ of another kind and leaves her life of domestic servitudeĀ for a journey of self-discovery.

Her journey takes her to a village near the Forest of Dean where she meets an eccentric group of characters. After finding a place to stay – a dilapidated old caravan – she becomes part of the local community and begins to reconnect with the person she was before she got married.

The series is very funny so is well worth a watch, especially if you’re a fan of its cast, which includes Christie, Paul Whitehouse (The Fast Show), Jim Howick (Here We Go) and Tanya Moody (Motherland).

Has The Change been renewed for season 2?

Yes, a new season was announced in May 2024. Release date is currently unknown.

Generally, Channel 4, like other TV networks, gauge numerous metrics before renewing a show, including how many people initially watch it and then looking at the drop-off rate. With some shows, cancellations or renewals happen quickly but at other times, it can take months before a decision is made over a show’s future.

What we know about season 2 so far:

Season 2 will likely focus on Linda again, as well as the other people in the village. And we expect it to follow on from the events in the last episode when Linda’s husband Steve turned up at the village’s Eel Festival. Could he become a part of the community too?

  4. This is what we need more of. Binge watched on a lazy Fri night/Saturday. Makes me wish we had these ceremonies for all women everywhere – so sad to think we crush this wild spirit out of most women and girls or ostracise them for being ugly and mad. And I can’t bear not knowing if the ‘forst’ is saved – let alone the tragedy of the loss of the tree. Wonderful cast – must’ve been so fun to be part of. Love the forgiveness and power of the marginalised voices finally.

  6. What a cliffhanger! I certainly hope the show continues. The journey we travelled was very enjoyable, relatable and challenging. I’m struck by how many of today’s societal issues were commented on.

  9. Have never before seen a sit-com where I identified so much with the main character. Funny and pertinent and such a fascinating community – leaving us on such a frustrating cliff-hanger. Am I the only one who wishes Linda doesn’t return to her husband but stays on as a member of the ‘forst folk’? Please Ch 4 commission another series!

  13. Binged watched it absolutely fabulous drama/comedy, yes Ch4 there has to be a 2nd season please you can’t leave all us watcher’s in suspense. So true about the menopause

    Can’t leave us hanging, need series 2.

  22. I sat down with my peri menopausal wife who is about to turn 50. I had seen the clips advertised but had no idea of the plot. Other than my wife drawing similarities to myself and Omid, we found it hilarious. Series 2 please.

  32. The change – absolutely brilliant! The humor and story line was so imaginative and true to life! All the stars in the cast made the show! Iā€™m getting my parents of 89/91 to watch it now! Yes please another series! I would love to know if Linda and Steve get accepted ! Sad about the trees in the forest!
