The Atypical Family is a crazy K-drama, chock full of superheroes, action and drama to sink your teeth into. If you’ve been following this one, you may be wondering if this has been renewed or cancelled. Here’s what we know:
What is The Atypical Family Season 1 about?
The Atypical Family is the latest weekend K-drama that looks like it could be all the rage. The story centers on Bok Gwi-Joo and his family, who are born with different supernatural powers.
Bok Gwi-Joo is able to travel back in time, but only to happy times in his own life. He can’t change the past, so he can only observe these happy moments. When Gwi-Joo ends up with depression, he loses his powers.
His family also loses their own powers due to modern day problems like insomnia, bulimia, and smartphone addiction. One day, Do Da-Hae happens to get involved with Bok Gwi-Joo and his family and as she lives with them, changes occur…

Has The Atypical Family been renewed for season 2?
At the time of writing, JTBC have not renewed The Atypical Family for season 2. Given the ratings over the weeks, it’ll be interesting to see if they actually do renew this for a follow-up.
The ratings began with a pretty decent 3.2% share nationwide but since then, the show has been increasing in popularity with every passing week, with the later episodes hitting upwards of 3.7% nationwide.
Despite the steady ratings, it’s extremely rare to find Korean dramas renewed for another season. That has changed in recent years but given the sheer wealth of talent in this that are sure to move onto other projects, we predict that The Atypical Family will not be renewed for a second season.

What we know about season 2 so far:
Barely anything is known about season 2 right now. Given most Korean dramas are reserved to one season, it’s rare to find these sort of shows renewed. With the rare exception of ongoing Netflix shows (Love ft. Marriage and Divorce, Hospital Playlist etc.) then it seems unlikely that this one will be renewed.
Having said that though, we have seen Taxi Driver and Tale of the Nine Tailed renewed recently, alongside Alchemy of Souls too. Given how steady the ratings are for this series, could we see this one buck the trend? It seems very unlikely that The Atypical Family will, but you never know! We’ll be sure to update this section when we know more.
