Has The Afterparty been renewed for Season 3? Here’s what we know:

Renewed Or Cancelled?

The Afterparty has tasted quick success for its fresh twist on the whodunnit genre. The Apple TV+ offering is about to complete its second season (at the time of writing) and fans are excited to see the mystery of Edgar’s murder get solved in the season finale.

Season 2 has done quite well for Apple+ which has sometimes fallen short in terms of viewership.

Many from the original cast returned for the second season, which felt familiar and quaint, just like the first iterant. If you’ve finished watching this one, you may be wondering if this has been renewed or cancelled. Here’s what we know so far:

What is The Afterparty Season 2 about?

Season 2 of The Afterparty is set on the scenic and expansive Minnow Vinelands. Edgar Minnow is set to marry Grace, Zoe’s sister. Aniq and Zoe are together now and will be among the many guests who arrive at the estate for the wedding. However, things take a dark turn when Edgar’s dead body is discovered on the morning after the wedding. Aniq calls on Danner, who has quit the police force and is now writing a book on the events played out in the first season.

Danner and Aniq once again pair up to investigate Edgar’s murder and question everyone present in the house as suspects. For some reason, Isabel, Edgar’s stern single mother, does not call upon the police instantly. The new characters who are interviewed by Aniq and Danner are Feng & Vivian, Zoe and Grace’s parents, Hannah, Edgar’s adopted sister, Sebastian, Edgar’s business partner, Travis, Grace’s quaint ex-boyfriend, Ulsysses, Feng’s estranged brother, and Isabel.

Has The Afterparty been renewed for season 3?

At the time of writing, Apple TV+ has not renewed The Afterparty for a third season. Given the nature of this series, that could change if it does good numbers for the streamers.

Generally, Apple TV+, like other networks and streaming platforms, gauges numerous metrics before renewing a show, including how many people initially watch it and then looking at the drop-off rate. With some shows, cancellations or renewals happen quickly (ala. Squid Game, Bridgerton etc.) Other times, it can take months before Netflix make a decision over a show’s future.

Season 2 of The Afterparty has emulated the first season’s success to once again top Apple’s streaming charts.  The response from all stakeholders has been very positive. The effort to further infuse creativity in each character narrating their version of the events has been appreciated and noted as a rarity in today’s television space.

Showrunner Chris Miller spoke to Games Radar about plans for a third season:

We are on strike right now so currently not working on anything but hopefully studios can make a fair deal and pay writers a good living wage. There is a lot in store and we have a lot of plans. You never know who might pop up as the world expands, which allows for more fun.

Miller fell short of confirming ongoing talks with Apple TV+ for renewing the show. But we expect the streamers to order another season of The Afterparty owing to its popularity, quality and consistency, and the show’s prestige element for the platform.

We’ll be sure to update this section with accurate details over the coming weeks and months when we know more!

What we know about season 3 so far:

Not much is known about season 3 at the time of writing, given Apple TV+ has not officially renewed this one yet. Should the network decide to greenlight this one, we can expect a new storyline to be introduced in the third season. The Afterparty’s setup means that a few characters might be retained – Aniq, Danner, and Zoe – while a host of new ones will also be introduced with the story.

As for the release date, the ongoing strikes will play spoilsport for a while. A 2024 release is too optimistic at this given point but the summer of 2025 should be a realistic target for Apple TV+ to release Season 3 of The Afterparty.
