Tale of the Nine Tailed: 1938 is the latest fantasy drama, serving as season 2 of this ongoing series, and bringing back our beloved brothers, a brand new adventure and plenty of myths and legends to contend with.

If you’ve been following this one, you may be wondering if this has been renewed or cancelled. Well, wonder no more! Here’s what we know about a renewal:

What is Tale of the Nine Tailed: 1938 about?

Tale of the Nine Tailed is back! Lee Yeon returns as the nine-tailed fox whose relegated to human form, something he’s lived with for hundreds of years. However, his happily-ever-after is cut short by an immediate quest that sees Yeon whisked back in time to 1938.

There, Yeon meets Hong-joo again. She used to be the guardian spirit of a mountain in the west, but in 1938 she’s the owner of the best high-end restaurant in Myoyeongak, the capital city of Gyeongseong. As these two cross paths once more, Yeon also finds himself in the presence of his younger brother Lee Rang, who’s still alive in this time period.

Yeon is desperate to get back to the present, but in order to do so, he needs to figure out how to right the wrongs in the past. Will he make it out of this one alive?

Has Tale of the Nine Tailed been renewed for season 3?

At the time of writing, tvN have not renewed Tale of the Nine Tailed for season 2. Given the ratings over the weeks, it’ll be interesting to see if they actually do renew this for a follow-up.

The ratings began with a 6.4% share nationwide but since then, the show has held pretty firm over the weeks and is actually increasing steadily with every week that passes.

Given that most Korean dramas only run for a single season, Tale of the Nine Tailed has already bucked that trend and has actually managed to produce a story that feels much more consistent compared to season 1. With all that in mind, we’re going out on a limb and predicting that Tale Of The Nine Tailed will be renewed for season 3.

We’ll be sure to update this section with more details as they become available though.

What we know about season 2 so far:

Barely anything is known about season 3 right now given we don’t have the official green-light from tvN over whether this has been renewed or not. However, we do know there was a 3 year turnaround time between seasons 1 and 2, while the ratings are actually pretty good across the board.

If this is renewed, we’d imagine Tale of the Nine Tailed will take on a similar approach to the second season, plucking our characters into a different time period to contend with. We’ll be sure to update this section when we know more.

  5. Ever since season 1 came up i have been longing to watch the season 2 of this drama and i will probably be dying of waitng a season 3 coming up too. That would not be bad really because every part and all characters in this drama were just so so so so so so so so interesting, entertaining, funny, awsome and never got bored in any ways. Please we want a season 3 and a big round of applaud for all the actors…i especially really love Ryu Hong character just so pretty and very strong.

    I must say that i have learnt a lot from this drama such as the importance of a family, how much just few words of encouragment coming from loved ones can make you find your way and trust yourself, we shoud always be proud to fight for justice no matter what it takes, also what counts is not the quantity but the quality because once we trust each other, fight for each other and have a common gaol evrything is possible. Thanks!

  15. Yes pleas let’s have season 3 as soon as possible. I felt there were still some more action and questions waiting to be answered.

  16. They left the story open in hopes we would like season 2 so much that the series would be renewed for season 3. Low key mad it was only 12 episodes because I have so many questions. I want to know what happens with the original mountain god and where are Lee Yeon’s mountain god friends now in 2023. What happens with Rang and his mermaid? The fortune god knew Lee Yeon would get lost in the future but when? So many people should be in the new timeline that has been created. There is more to this story and I’m interested.

  17. I have just finished this Season 2 of this drama. I already loved Season 1 of The Tale of the Nine Tailed and the second part just took it another level. It is one of my favourite kdramas i have ever watched specially because of the fantasy plot. But season 2 has only 12 episode s. There are still so much to cover especially about the original mountain god. What happened to him? The drama ended without showing him. We netizens would be greatful if we could get a Season 3 between the three mountain god’s vs the orginal mountain god. It will be too good no wonder. We really loved this series and would be hoping to see all the characters fight together against the evil mountain god on season 3.

  23. Of course there should be season 3 right? Where did the first mountain deity go then? His character suddenly popped up and not even yet shown a full character moment and took Talipa’s eye and went hiding, making his character not fully grown yet. I would love to see more about it in season 3 and seeing Kim Bum as Lee Rang’s farewell letter was really sad. I want to see more of him in season 3 as well. Didn’t want all of this to be an end.
