Star Wars: Outlaws 2
Star Wars has had quite the turbulent year. After the disastrous release of The Acolyte, followed by the backlash from Amandla Stenberg with her diss track, all the way across to the media badmouthing fans and calling them toxic, we’ve also had quite the war over on the videogame side of things too.
Outlaws basically takes the usual Ubi mechanics, waters them all down and throws in some trademark bugs and generic missions for good measure. Unfortunately, that has not cut it with fans.
But will there be an Outlaws 2? Here’s what we know:
What is Star Wars: Outlaws about?
Star Wars: Outlaws focuses on Kay Vess, an emerging scoundrel yearning for freedom and starting a new life alongside her companion Nix. Along the way, the pair find themselves entangled with all manner of familiar (and not so familiar) characters, including Jabba the Hutt and Darth Vader.
Your mission is to recruit a team of scoundrels to pull off a risky heist, stealing from a millionaire and taking off into the galaxy with a big payday. But there are malevolent forces at work here…
Will there be a Star Wars: Outlaws 2?
Ubisoft Entertainment, the studio behind Outlaws, have not given an official confirmation over the future for this Star Wars title.
Reception has been pretty bad online from audiences, and while critics have been way more lenient on this one, a lot of fans have been unhappy with how unpolished the game is, along with the bland mission design, ugly graphics and a litany of other issues.
Not only that, but recent reports suggest that Outlaws is selling pretty poorly overall. Ubisoft’s stock price has dropped to a ten-year low in recent months too and investors are not happy.
Christopher Dring of GamesIndustry.biz also reports lower-than-expected physical sales of Star Wars Outlaws in the United Kingdom, which is apparently 55% lower than what Star Wars Jedi: Survivor sold during its launch period. Ouch.
As such, it seems highly unlikely that we will get a sequel to Star Wars: Outlaws. The game does have potential to expand out the lore and ideas with DLC or additional content, but given the current reception to the game, that does not seem likely.
What do we know about Outlaws 2?
Well, given Ubisoft haven’t officially greenlit a sequel, it’s hard to speculate until actual numbers come in. We’ve already predicted that this will not be renewed but if it is, and Ubi greenlight a sequel, it seems likely that Kay will return with Nix and head off on another adventure.
We can probably expect more familiar locales mixed in with new planets, perhaps even Endor might make an appearance given how this one aligns itself in the Star Wars universe. However, all of this does seem very unlikely but we’ll be sure to update this page with more details as they become available.
