Sleeping Dog is the latest crime drama, this one coming right from the heart of Germany. With a big mystery, a few twists and turns, alongside relatively good characterization, this one definitely makes for an enjoyable watch.

If you’ve finished watching this one, you may be wondering if this has been renewed or cancelled. Here’s what we know so far:

What is Sleeping Dog Season 1 about?

Sleeping Dog’s story centers on a broken man called Mike Atlas. A former detective now living on the street, Atlas finds himself thrown into the midst of a big murder case which has unnerving similarities to his own final case involving a guy called Judge Herres. Atlas is not alone in this fight though, as he finds himself teaming up with bright star Jule Andergast. She’s the DA’s shining jewel, and Corinna Steck believes that she has what it takes to surpass her mother, who was also part of that department.

As the series progresses, the pair find this case running deeper than they ever thought possible, inevitably leading to a lot of drama and home truths being unveiled at the end.

Oh, and there’s also a subplot involving a detective called Adebayo too that runs parallel to a lot of the drama occurring here.

Has Sleeping Dog been renewed for season 2?

At the time of writing, Netflix have not renewed Sleeping Dog for a second season. Given the nature of this series, that could change if it does good numbers for the streamers.

Generally Netflix, like other streaming platforms, gauge numerous metrics before renewing a show, including how many people initially watch it and then looking at the drop-off rate. With some shows, cancellations or renewals happen quickly (ala. Squid Game, Bridgerton etc.) Other times, it can take months before Netflix make a decision over a show’s future.

So far, Sleeping Dog has had a pretty good reaction from audiences and critics alike, with the series easy to watch and also armed with a simple but effective hook. It’s certainly far from perfect but it does have a decent enough resolution.

The story is pretty much done by the time the credits roll, so it seems unlikely that it’ll be back for more. With all that in mind, we predict that Netflix will not renew Sleeping Dog for a follow-up season. Now, that could change but this seems more like a one and done affair.

What we know about season 2 so far:

Not much is known about season 2 at the time of writing, given Netflix have not officially renewed this one yet. Should the streamers decide to greenlight this one, it’s fair to assume that Mike Atlas will be back, alongside Zaric, Corinna and the other characters we’ve come to follow across the series.

It’s likely that Netflix will make an official announcement several months from now, once the final viewing figures are in, but for now we’ll have to wait and see. We’ll be sure to update this section with more information as it becomes available.
