Has Secret Invasion been renewed for Season 2? Here’s what we know:

Renewed Or Cancelled?

Secret Invasion kicked off Marvel’s Phase V in grand fashion with its maiden season. The six-part series saw the return of Nick Fury to the fore as he joined forces with an old ally from space to fight against a “secret invasion.” Emilia Clarke is the other star billing on the show, playing the pivotal character of G’iah.

The tone of the storytelling and the substance of the plot were quite different from the usual Marvel banter and Fury’s character was seen in a new light. Samuel Jackson adjusted to the change really well, however, and elevated the show.

Season 1 of Secret Invasion has now come to an end. But has it been renewed for season 2?

After finishing all the episodes, you may be wondering if this has been renewed or cancelled. Here’s what we know:

What is Secret Invasion season 1 about?

Secret Invasion begins with the ominous suggestion of an alien invasion of Earth by Skrulls. These are shape-shifting creatures whose own planet became a victim of in-fighting, causing many to desert it. The new faction of Srkulls is led by Gravik. Their base is settled in the abandoned area of Chernobyl in Russia. Nick Fury comes back from his deep space exploration to join hands with Talos, another Skrull who wants to protect Earth from this planned invasion.

Gravik’s plan is simple: pit the superpowers of the world against each other so that the Skrulls can take advantage of their vulnerability. G’iah, Talos’ daughter, is initially on Gravik’s side but changes her loyalties once she discovers his ruthlessness and disregard for Skrull life. Sonya Falsworth, a high-ranking British intelligence officer, keenly tracks the plan and Fury’s attempts to prevent it. But their task is made harder as world governments have been unimaginably infested by Skrulls.

Has Secret Invasion been renewed for season 2?

At the time of writing, Disney+ has not renewed Secret Invasion for season 3. Given Disney’s track record for not renewing a lot of its shows, it’s perhaps only a matter of time before they make an announcement.

Generally, Disney+ and other streamers gauge numerous metrics before renewing a show, including how many people initially watch it and then looking at the drop-off rate. With some shows, cancellations or renewals happen quickly (ala. Squid Game, Bridgerton & Shantaram) Other times, it can take months before a decision over a show’s future is made.

So far, Secret Invasion has had a steady reception from the fans. They are the real deciding factor for anything Marvel does. The show has indeed created a buzz among the fanbase, who have been eagerly looking for the underpinnings of a new phase in the MCU.

But given the way the show is set up, we’re going out on a limb and predicting that this will not be renewed for a second season. Why? Firstly, Marvel announced this as a miniseries, which means this was only intended for one season. And secondly, there is a sense of finality to the end of the Skrull war in the final episode.

A big indication came from Marvel’s pre-release marketing efforts where it was hinted that the studio is not in favour of creating multi-season tv shows. Rather, the shows are used more like setups to the movies and progressing the MCU as a whole.

We’ll be sure to update this section with accurate details over the coming weeks and months when we know more!

What we know about season 2 so far:

Barely anything is known about season 2 at this point as Disney has not made a definitive decision over the show’s future just yet. As such, we can’t comment on what might happen. We think a second season is unlikely but the story in season 1 may be continued in The Marvels, which is due for release later this year.

If there are any significant updates, then we’ll be sure to update this section and let you all know!
