Has Rough Diamonds been renewed for Season 2? Here’s what we know:

Renewed Or Cancelled?

Rough Diamonds is the latest Belgian crime thriller on Netflix, bringing a delightful pressure cooker of tension and drama throughout its 8 episodes. After finishing the whole series, you may be wondering if this has been renewed or cancelled. Here’s what we know:

What is Rough Diamonds Season 1 about?

Rough Diamonds is a family crime thriller with a sharp edge, starting slowly and then quickly picking up in intensity. The main character here is Noah, who travels from London to attend his brother’s funeral over in Belgium, only to find out the once-successful family business has been left in financial ruin.

Noah returns to the diamond district to pick up the pieces, but quickly learns that things are far worse than he initially thought.

Has Rough Diamonds been renewed for season 2?

At the time of writing, Rough Diamonds has not been renewed for a second season. Given the nature of the show’s content, that could well change if it does good numbers for Netflix.

Generally Netflix gauge numerous metrics before renewing a show, including how many people initially watch it and then looking at the drop-off rate. The completion rate is one of the most important metrics though, as recently revealed with the shock cancellation of 1899.

With some shows, cancellations or renewals happen quickly (ala. Squid Game, Bridgerton & Irregulars) Other times, it can take months before Netflix make a decision over a show’s future.

So far, Rough Diamonds has had a pretty good reaction from critics and audiences alike, with many enjoying the slow burn nature of this drama. It’s also trending in some regions too, with lots of chatter about that ending, which seems to indicate that many are finishing this one too.

Given the way this show is set up, we’re predicting that this will be renewed for a second season. The show has a lot of promise about it and could very easily extend its run across another series. With the recent writer’s strike underway, Netflix are going to be looking for shows internationally to tide them over. Rough Diamonds could be one of them.

We’ll be sure to update this section with accurate details over the coming weeks and months when we know more!

What we know about season 2 so far:

Barely anything is known about season 2 at this point, given Netflix have not officially green-lit a sequel. If this is renewed, expect more drama and lots thrills to come too, as the action intensifies.

As mentioned above, we predict that this will be renewed but we’ll have to wait and see what happens. We’ll be sure to update this page in the future when more information is known though!

  1. Just found this fascinating TV series & finished up last 2 episodes yesterday & it’s been haunting me ever since! ( now it’s May 8, 2024!) I’m 93 yrs old & kinda picky now- no fantasy – no science fiction or ‘ Hero’action shows or syrupy romance, etc but TCM of the 30s, 40s & good ‘authentic’ drama when you can find it? And the stuff out of Israel is top notch – I’ve found. Having lived in Europe & Asia as a military wife – lucky me – I miss feeling ‘a stranger in a strange lane so search out for stories & settings that ‘take me there’! So Rough Diamonds was a revelation & a rare entry into that amazing community! So smart & beautifully acted & characters motivations presented. ((be sure to have Captions On so don’t miss a word!). have seen other pgms like ‘Shetil’(?) & ‘Orthodox’ – loved those, too. Enjoyed all the comments from last year, too. YES – Season 2; 3; ad infinitum?? Ha?

  2. I was on the edge of my seat with every episode. Definately needs at least a second season since there are too many loose ends.

  3. Have watched the series twice now and thoroughly enjoyed both times. Great acting and incite into the orthodox Jewish community. Would love to see a second series as would like to see what happens to Noah and his family and Gila and hers and whether she goes to New York

  4. I really liked this program. I enjoyed the culture, the drama, and the acting. It had mystery, romance, it was very suspenseful also. I hope it’s renewed for another season!

  5. I thought it was wonderfully acted and the writing and plot was fantastic. As a Catholic i enjoyed seeing ultra Orthodox Jewish life, and how seriously they take their worship of God. As with all religious traditions, there is also hypocrisy, and this series doesn’t mind showing that. I couldn’t help but compare the last scene of Episode 8, which contrasted Noah’s holy ritual in the synagogue with the final bloody skullduggery of his actions, to a similar scene in The Godfather at the baptismal font in the church. When the priest asks Michael Corleone “Do you renounce Satan and all his works?”, Michael says “I do”, and immediately all of his Mafia enemies are gunned down in cold blood. Striking hypocrisy that makes for great drama. More please!

I also enjoyed the Shtisel series on Netflix about the Israeli ultra Orthodox community, although its is more low key than RD.

  6. Great show. It’s different. If it’s not renewed for at least a 2nd and 3rd season, it would be a travesty.
    Great writing and acting.

  7. Excellent acting, writing and show. The languages and visuals are so real and the tension keeps it going. Binged within 2 days..hopefully a season 2

  8. Completely enthralled from episode 1. The languages especially the Yiddish were part of the charm. The way they switched between Flemish, Yiddish, English and French, sometimes in the same sentence was fascinating to me. Really hope it gets renewed for season 2!

  9. I have enjoyed watching Rough Diamonds and sincerely hope Netflix does another season. The program has taught me about Orthodox Jewish ✡️ custons and way of life. I’m from the south and where I grew up there were no Jews in our region. The plot is intriguing, it was well acted and has very human elements interwoven throughout.

  10. Was Not even remotely satisfied with the ending in Season 8. Noah’s life is Not full filled. He is still a lost sole. Will Grand Ma seek revenge? What will the ramifications of what transpired do to Noah and his family? Noah has a choice to make for a sole mate – In Judaism it is Not at all natural to have a relationship with the bride of a brother who took his life so to me the correct choice is his blonde friend.

  11. Very intriguing series, beautifully acted. An insight into the arcane world of ultra Orthodox Jews.

  12. I too thought this series one of the best I’ve seen on Netflix. Excellent acting. Intricate plot. Glad to see a review that spoke to authentic portrayal of orthodox customs and beliefs. I hope very much to watch future seasons.

  13. LOVE! THIS! SHOW! I was on the edge of my seat from the get-go! Excellent acting and writing – so interesting to learn so much about the orthodox way of life and the plot and subplots were great! I truly hope there will be a second season!

  14. This is a good program that should receive a 2nd season. There are still too many loose ends at end of season 1 to be a satisfying ending.

  15. Carole This show is the most exciting and intriguing thing I have seen a longtime.A second season please
I am Carole with an e not the same as Carol who posted earlier.

  16. We think it is a very intriguing show with lots of insight into a culture we are unfamiliar with. The characters are well developed and acted well.
    Please renew.

  17. Would like to have Season 2. Very interesting to see into the Hasidic Jewish community, so rare and fascinating.

  18. I was hooked from the start and I’m eager for season 2. Please don’t make me wait too long 🙏🏼🙏🏼

  19. Absolutely yes, this was one of the best shows I’d seen in a long while, GOOD cast, good family drama.

  20. Stayed up until 1 AM watching the series and loved it. Hope it gets at least one more season.

  21. We loved it and please renew. The plot is great, fast moving, interesting to learn about Jewish life. We only allowed ourselves to watch 2 episodes for the 4 nights and can hardly wait for the next Season of Rough Diamonds. Please renew soon!

  22. Please renew. I Love this show. The show had action, best of all I was able to see the way The jews live and worship God. Please bring back this show. The insight to other. cultures is learning.

  23. Yes, I would like the show to be renewed!! It was very intriguing, and educational for those of us that know very little about Orthodox Judaism!!!

  24. No, this is not the same Noach from the show, just a very satisfIED viewer who thought the show was intriguing, educational, and entertaining. It’s hard to put all those things together especially when you are dealing with the sensI’ve issue of how to portray the Orthodox Jewish world. As an Orthodox Jew myself, it was fairly true to the traditions Etc. and allowed everyone to get a glimpse of what the traditions are of Orthodox Judaism.

I would definitely love to see a second season, if not more

  25. Would like another season of Rough Diamonds. Very interesting glimpse into another way of life.

  26. Thoroughly enjoyed the show! Lots
of room to develop further. Please let’s have a second season! Characters are well played and can be developed further!

  27. Absolutely bring us a Season 2 of “Rough Diamonds” as soon as possible.
    I can’t wait!

  28. Wow…a terrific show packed with intrigue and many twists, turns and possible story lines that leave us guessing! It’s like a wonderful book coming to life!! The actors are great, and we definitely are looking forward to seeing a lot more of this wonderful series!!! PLEASE RENEW!!

  29. Loved!! Definitely worth a second season watched in a Sunday afternoon into evening did not leave my house .. terrific

  30. Please, a 2nd season must be done! Excellent plot, acting and directing. Crossing fingers here!

  31. Please renew! Would l

  32. Absolutely loved this show. One of the best on Netflix and I watch a lot of Netflix. I raced through all 8 episodes not wanting it to end. It managed to be thrilling exciting and almost educational with no sex and very little violence.

  34. In watching RD I was intrigued by the authenticity of the way the Chassidic community was depicted, and kept asking my wife, “Are you sure that none of these people aren’t real Chassidim? The diverse intrigue of the main plot and sub-plots elevated the interest of this viewer. I would be extremely disappointed if a second season is not offered

  35. I really enjoyed all 8 episodes of ROUGH DIAMONDS, and would definitely love to se at the very least another season.

  36. RD is very, very good, sort of The Godfather if he were Hasidim and his religion was as important as his criminal acts. The authentic detail of an ultra conservative Jewish family of diamond merchants guided by religious practise as well as by the culture of the diamond business in Antwerp where one’s word is sacred, draws the viewer into an amazing story well paced, well acted well staged and far better than most of the ambitious dramas streaming.
It’s starts low but soon the liturgy of Orthodox Judaism draws you into an amazing crime thriller shows the fanaticism not just of the bad guys and the rabbis but ofthe ptosecutors. One great conversation between the family boss and a prosecutor is emblamatic. “Why won’t you take this deal?” asks the boss. “For the same reason that won’t work on the Sabbath” says the lady peoswcutor.

  37. RD is an excellent written and acted show on Netflix and definitely should be renewed for a second season. As an avid Netflix viewer this show is so superior to almost all of the foreign produced shows available. This is a money maker that Netflix must continue.

  38. Rough Diamonds was superb. The plot is intriguing, the acting is excellent, and the capture of orthodox life is superb .
There has to be a second season so that we know the answer to all of the questions I’m sure all viewers must have as to the fate of all of the characters
