Renewed Or Cancelled?
Red Rose had its debut in the streaming world a few weeks ago. However, it was first broadcast by BBC Three back in August 2022. The show is produced by Eleven and now features in the top 10 list of the most streamed shows right now on Netflix. Its major themes revolve around the dark side of the internet and how human savagery manifests when it knows no one can see the person. There is also the constant commentary about the symbiotic and toxic relationship modern teens have formed with their internet-enabled smartphones and how technology can be weaponized to destroy one’s life.
Red Rose had the makings of creating a real impact in the sordid, cutthroat television space it belongs. But the potential never materializes, even as the show beckons something to save it. Even though season 1 was not inspiring in our opinion, it still exhibited interesting ideas that can very well be explored in a second season. Here is what we know about Red Rose season 2:
What is Red Rose Season 1 about?
Red Rose is mostly set in Bolton around a group of teenagers who tastefully call themselves the “Dickheads.” Rochelle, who is the undeclared leader of the group, is the one targeted first by the app. Alyssa, a girl from Manchester, was the app’s first target a few months before the incidents in Bolton.
When Roche tries to explain her situation to Wren, Ashely, Noah, Antony, and Taz, she is ignored. The app successfully isolates her and she loses her life. Wren is targeted next but, on this occasion, they have the benefit of hindsight and rally behind her to get to the truth.
Has Red Rose been renewed for season 2?
Currently, the makers of Red Rose have not indicated they want to take the story forward. Both Netflix and Eleven have thus far refused to confirm a second season. We know that given the cliffhanger ending, season 2 can be set in an entirely new cultural landscape with specific sensibilities being incorporated to explore the themes in a new setting. However, nothing concrete has been confirmed.
What we know about season 2 so far:
Barely anything is known about season 2 at this point, given Netflix/Eleven has not green-lit a sequel. However, if this is renewed expect the story to continue in Tokyo, where we saw a group of teenagers receive a message from The Gardner, who we know is the I Heart BLTN girl who helped the Dickheads in the final episode and also ran into Jaya to confirm her identity.
She had rightly warned that the idea of the Red Rose can take shape in some other form. And she was right, as we saw the Red Rose being replaced by a white and golden rose symbol in the new app.
As mentioned above, we predict that this will be renewed but we’ll have to wait and see what happens. We’ll be sure to update this page in the future when more information is known though!
