Queenmaker is a well written and in-depth political drama, chock full of strong female characters and an enticing Mayoral campaign at the center of this.  If you’ve been following the show, you may be wondering if this has been renewed or cancelled. Here’s what we know:

What is Queenmaker Season 1 about?

Queenmaker follows Campaign manager Hwang Do-hee, who finds herself working for the powerful and morally corrupt Eunsung Group. When a big scandal involving Jae-min breaks out, involving a secretary called I-seul, Do-hee has a change of conscience and finds herself aligned with human rights lawyer, Kyung-sook, as they go up against Eunsung Group.

Has Queenmaker been renewed for season 2?

At the time of writing, Netflix have not renewed Queenmaker for season 2. Given the ratings over the weeks, it’ll be interesting to see if they actually do renew this for a follow-up.

Netflix tend to use a variety of different metrics to gauge whether a show is renewed, including completion rate and minutes watched.

Despite the strong ratings, it’s extremely rare to find Korean dramas renewed for another season. That has changed in recent years with Netflix Originals,  but given the sheer wealth of talent in this that are sure to move onto other projects, we predict that Queenmaker will not be renewed for a second season.

What we know about season 2 so far:

Barely anything is known about season 2 right now. Given most Korean dramas are reserved to one season, it’s rare to find these sort of shows renewed. With the rare exception of ongoing Netflix shows (Love ft. Marriage and Divorce, Hospital Playlist etc.) then it seems unlikely that this one will be renewed.

Having said that though, we have seen Taxi Driver and Tale of the Nine Tailed renewed recently, alongside Alchemy of Souls too. Given how steady the ratings are for this series, could we see this one buck the trend? It seems unlikely but you never know! We’ll be sure to update this section when we know more.

  1. One of the best shows but we need to have a season 2 to find out who the guy at the end is. I wish Netflix would stop showing shows and not finishing them. It’s so disappointing and they have done it so often.

  4. DEFINITELY continue with a season 2. Such a wonderful well acted series with a positive view of a politician!

  6. i wanted the final scene of hwang and the chairperson Son.. but theres none!!! a bit disgusted, a season 2 is a must, with these 2 actresses in it fighting head to head.

  7. Season 2 please. Love everything in it. Well crafted and superb actors rolled into one. Each episode made me want for more.

  9. I started watching the Korean series, this one leaves us wanting more. She deserves the chane to make others Kibgs or Queens. Yes to Hwang Do Wee…

  13. Yes loved Queenmaker – it was an excellent watch & kept me at the edge of my seat. The actors & actresses were brilliant in each of their roles. Please bring on Seaon 2.

  14. Definitely, Awesome show. Could not stop watching. Total binge.. missed a day of work. Who was the suit at the end? Hope that don’t give anything away.. Rates with Dynasty and Who Shot J.R.? .. MUST WATCH AND BRING ON SEASON TWO!!!
