Renewed or Cancelled?
Platonic is a refreshing take on the dynamics of cross-gender adult relationships. The ten-part series stars Rose Byrne and Seth Rogen as two estranged best friends who come together in the face of misfortune. The Apple TV Plus show walked the tightrope of drama and comedy superbly throughout its run. People have appreciated the restraint of the creators to stay true to the essence of the underlying story. But has Platonic been renewed for Season 2?
If you’ve finished watching this one, you may be wondering if this has been renewed or cancelled. Here’s what we know so far:
What is Platonic Season 1 about?
Sylvia is a housewife and mother of three. Her mildly successful and doe-eyed husband Charlie has just made partner at a law firm. The increasing need for them to move to a new house – without the tangible funds – eats up at her. She feels almost guilty for having left her law practice behind and saddling Charlie with all the fiscal responsibilities.
One day, Sylvia notices the separation of her former best friend Will with Audrey on IG. Sylvia and Will are no longer on speaking terms ever since he decided to marry Audrey. Sylvia had tried to warn him something like this could happen. But at the time, Will chose Audrey and thus the connections were severed.
Under the pretence of having a coffee, Sylvia renews her familiarity with Will, who is now a bachelor and owns part of a local bar. The two eventually reconnect beyond just like in the olden times but with different sensibilities.
Has Platonic been renewed for Season 2?
At the time of writing, Apple TV Plys has renewed Platonic for a second season.
Generally, Apple TV Plus, like other cable networks and streamers, gauges numerous metrics before renewing a show, including how many people initially watch it and then looking at the drop-off rate. With some shows, cancellations or renewals happen quickly (ala. Squid Game, Bridgerton etc.) Other times, it can take months before streamers like Apple TV Plus make a decision over a show’s future.
Season 1 of Platonic has received acclaim from both the audience and the critics. Rogen and Byrne’s chemistry has been the source of inspiration for Platonic. But the show is definitely more than the sum of its parts.
However, at this stage, it is unlikely the show will get renewed. The main cause of concern flows from the dependence of the storytelling on Rogen and Byrne and their availability. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, here is what Luke Macfarlane (who plays Sylvia’s husband Charlie) had to say on the subject:
“I know there’s been talk, but I’m not at those high-level ideas. There’s been definitely a conversation, but the world is a strange place right now with the strike and momentum and not knowing what’s a certain metric for success. And then truly, Rose and Seth are A-list movie stars. It depends on them and if they want to do it again too, but I know that a lot of people involved have lightly suggested that there’s a possibility for a season two.”

What do we know about Season 2 so far:
Not much is known about season 2 at the time of writing. But we expect it to stream on Apple TV Plus in 2025.
It was surely a surprise but a pleasant one to see Will getting his life back on track in an adult, mature, and stable way. Sylvia’s life improved too as she finally found her calling in event management. The finale brought a very satisfying close to both characters’ arcs.
It’s likely that Apple TV Plus will make an official announcement several months from now, once the final viewing figures are in. Do not wait for the show’s renewal though as we think it is unlikely Apple TV Plus will renew Platonic. We’ll be sure to update this section with more information as it becomes available.

Hilarious show. Quirky with twists and turns. The cast is great. I really hope they do another season. My husband and I got hooked and binged watched the whole season in a couple days.

Dave & Sally..we thoroughly enjoyed season one and would look forward to see what would transpire in a season two. It was an unusual mix of comedy and drama and the cast blended well together.
I didn’t think I would like the show, but I was hooked after giving it one view. Now I want more! You just know Will won’t last at keeping it together and Sylvia is bored without him! I love how this shows friends can be just friends even between a man and woman! 🙏 please bring another season(s) back for entertainment sake! I love escaping reality with this show!

I absolutely loved Platonic. The main dynamic was very realistic while getting to some wildly funny moments like “Secret Skills”. I also thought that the Luke Macfarlane character was spot on and hilariously drawn.
