Renewed Or Cancelled?
Painkiller is an enthralling and addictively dramatic crime thriller, depicting America’s opioid epidemic. Split across 6 episodes, this one has plenty of stand-out moments.
If you’ve finished watching this one, you may be wondering if this has been renewed or cancelled. Here’s what we know so far:
What is Painkiller Season 1 about?
Painkiller follows the causes and consequences of America’s opioid epidemic, which unfold in dramatic ways here, following its perpetrators, victims and an investigator seeking the truth.
We have ongoing coverage of Painkiller on the site, including episode recaps and a full season review. You can check those out HERE!
Has Painkiller been renewed for season 2?
At the time of writing, Netflix have not renewed Painkiller for a second season. Given the nature of this series, that could change if it does good numbers for the streamers.
Generally Netflix, like other streaming platforms, gauge numerous metrics before renewing a show, including how many people initially watch it and then looking at the drop-off rate. With some shows, cancellations or renewals happen quickly (ala. Squid Game, Bridgerton etc.) Other times, it can take months before Netflix make a decision over a show’s future.
So far, Painkiller has had a decent reaction from audiences and critics alike, with the series doing an excellent job with its storyline and acting.
The story is pretty much done though, given how this one concludes, so it would seem unlikely that it’s due to be green-lit. With all that in mind, we predict that Netflix will not renew Painkiller for a follow-up season. Now, that could change but this seems more like a one and done affair.
We’ll be sure to update this section with accurate details over the coming weeks and months when we know more!
What we know about season 2 so far:
Not much is known about season 2 at the time of writing, given Netflix have not officially renewed this one yet. Should the streamers decide to greenlight this one, it’s fair to assume that the story will continue one way or another, but that does seem highly unlikely.
It’s likely that Netflix will make an official announcement several months from now, once the final viewing figures are in, but for now we’ll have to wait and see. We’ll be sure to update this section with more information as it becomes available.
