Renewed or Cancelled?
Currently streaming on Viki, My Beautiful Man is a Japanese BL (boys love) drama based on the light novel Utsukushii Kare – translating to ‘He’s Beautiful.’ Starring Riku Hagiwara as the stuttering class-gopher Hira, while Yusei Yagi of FANTASTICS from EXILE TRIBE plays Kiyoi, the most beautiful person Hira has ever seen.
If you’ve finished watching My Beautiful Man Season 1 and Season 2, you may be wondering whether there’s a Season 3 on the horizon. Here’s what we know:
What is My Beautiful Man about?
It’s a sweet story of opposites attract with a very manga feel, filled with extreme reactions and outlandish characters. But navigate below the surface and you’ll gaze into the heart of a character-driven exposition pinpointing the desire to be understood. So while Hira, the main narrator, leads the tale it’s his counterpart and focus, Kiyoi who brings us to each stage of growth, sprinkling his feelings like breadcrumbs along the way.
Has My Beautiful Man been renewed for season 3?
There’s talk across the bl-verse of a Season 3 but to date, it’s not yet been confirmed. Speculation says 2024 and we will keep you posted. However, we do know there’s a movie coming soon: My Beautiful Man – Eternal.
What we know about My Beautiful Man – Eternal
My Beautiful Man – Eternal is currently in cinemas in Japan and awaiting a streaming date. Historically, it takes about 6 months for content to release with English subtitles. Perhaps demand will drive it a bit faster? We hope to be able to share more about that shortly.
The trailer above is for the movie and even without subtitles, you get the gist. A lot of this looks familiar, which is exactly what we’d expect of characters firmly strapped into their ways.
What can we watch while we wait?
Riku Hagiwara appears in a number of other dramas on Viki including high school drama Trapped in the Box, romance drama 60 Minutes Until the First Love Affair and movie Bittersand. It’s a bit tougher to catch Yusei Yagi as many of his dramas are tough to find outside of Japan. But you can find him sporting a man bun among the hooligans on Netflix’s High & Low the Worst X.
