Muted is the latest Spanish series on Netflix, sporting six easy-to-digest episodes and an intriguing hook that’ll have you questioning what’s happening until the very end.

If you’ve finished watching this one, you may be wondering if this has been renewed or cancelled. Here’s what we know so far:

What is Muted Season 1 about?

The story centers on Sergio, a young man who voluntarily decides not to speak for six years (unless the script calls for him to of course) after his parents are presumably murdered after tumbling from an apartment balcony.

With Sergio keeping quiet, he’s locked up for their murders and quietly goes about his sentence in silence. However, investigators decide to release him 9 months early but organize a Big Brother-esque surveillance project to watch his every move and try to work out if he’s actually a dangerous individual or not.

As the series progresses, it becomes apparent that there’s more to Sergio’s story than first meets the eye, while lead investigator Ana has more than a few skeletons in her closet.

Has Muted been renewed for season 2?

At the time of writing, Netflix have not renewed Muted for a second season. Given the nature of this series, that could change if it does good numbers for the streamers.

Generally Netflix, like other streaming platforms, gauge numerous metrics before renewing a show, including how many people initially watch it and then looking at the drop-off rate. With some shows, cancellations or renewals happen quickly (ala. Squid Game, Bridgerton etc.) Other times, it can take months before Netflix make a decision over a show’s future.

So far, Muted has had a pretty mixed reaction from audiences and critics alike, with the series easy to watch but breeding plenty of plot holes, inconsistencies and poor writing.

With all that considered, we predict that Netflix will not renew Muted for a follow-up season. Now, that could change but the show doesn’t really have all that much going for it, especially with the big revelations at the end of season 1

What we know about season 2 so far:

Not much is known about season 2 at the time of writing, given Netflix have not officially renewed this one yet. Should the streamers decide to greenlight this one, it’s fair to assume that we’ll be back with Sergio and pick up where we left off.

With Ana’s fate hanging in the balance, not to mention Noa, Marta and Cabrera’s arcs all essentially left unresolved, we could see the season follow those guys instead.

It’s likely that Netflix will make an official announcement several months from now, once the final viewing figures are in, but for now we’ll have to wait and see. We’ll be sure to update this section with more information as it becomes available.
