Has Litvinenko been renewed for season 2? Here’s what we know:

Renewed Or Cancelled?

A grieving family against an entire regime; sovereign institutes that are too powerful to take on. ITV’s drama series captures that fighting spirit – not just of the Litvinenko family – but also of the honest cop, doctor, and other public servants on the payroll refusing to budge their morality. Litvinenko was most feverishly covered in the media for David Tennant’s winning cameo appearance.

But as t turns out, the show amounts to much more than that. If you have completed season 1, you must be wondering if we will have more of the show. Here’s what we know about ITV’s Litvinenko season 2:

What is Litvinenko about?

The four-part series offers a three-dimensional look at the entire episode. At first, it starts as an intriguing story of a former KGB spy with dubious ties to his home state. But as the tapes begin recording, his account unravels a deeply concerning conspiracy and a potential act of terrorism of great magnitude on British soil. From that intrigue, the series then takes a strict turn toward becoming a police procedural. Like an authentic investigation, the case reaches its evidence-gathering stage.

And finally, Litvinenko concludes with the fight in courts using the laws in place to protect the rights of individuals against arbitrary State power.

Has Litvinenko been renewed for season 2?

ITV has confirmed their decision not to renew the show for season 2. This is not based on reception from the viewers and was taken even before the series started streaming. This is because of how Litvinenko starts and how it ends. The focus of the filmmakers and the actors was to bring out the tragic episode as authentically as possible to make sure that the factual nuances that implicate Russia and Putin are not distorted.

In our opinion, a second season for Litvinenko does not seem like a real probability as after the events where the series ends, the story pretty much boils down to courtrooms. That will not make for good television – perhaps might become good case material for a law student – and hence the decision seems the right one.

What we know about season 2 so far:

Season 2 is not happening, unless another studio picks this up and runs a spin-off but that seems very, very unlikely. However, you can still watch the miniseries on Netflix or ITV. It does make for a compelling binge-watching experience!

  1. It was a brilliant drama, brilliantly acted by David Tennant and the rest of the cast. It would be really nice to see some form of prequal or sequal.
