Has Liaison been renewed for Season 2? Here’s what we know:

Renewed Or Cancelled?

Apple TV+ has produced another intriguing spy thriller centred around contemporary political sensibilities. Liaison stars Eva Green and Vincent Cassel as two former lovers and spies working for different countries who come together once again after a serious terrorist plot of global significance starts to unfurl. The six-part series finished its first season on the last day of March.

After finishing the whole series, you may be wondering if this has been renewed or cancelled. Here’s what we know:

What is Liaison Season 1 about?

Alison’s (Green) and Gabriel’s (Cassel) paths collide when Syrian hacker brothers steal vital information from Assad and the UK is subjected to cyberterrorist attacks. They are spies and former lovers, and their checkered history has a disturbing, life-changing (and not in a good way) event at its heart. Samir and Walid, the brothers, are tracked by the two spies and their governments. Behind all the powerful master moves is a private organization called Antropa. They have infiltrated both sets of governments and want to do what corporations do best: earn more money.

The series revolves around these landmarks, both narratively and through the lens of exposition. For once, six episodes feels too little for the expansion of the story. We do not usually get to say that too much but given how much there is to unpack here, Liaison is certainly affected by it.

Has Liaison been renewed for season 2?

At the time of writing, Liaison has not been renewed for a second season. Given Apple’s track record for renewing a lot of its shows, it’s perhaps only a matter of time before they do announce this.

Generally, Apple and other streamers gauge numerous metrics before renewing a show, including how many people initially watch it and then looking at the drop-off rate. With some shows, cancellations or renewals happen quickly (ala. Squid Game, Bridgerton & Shantaram) Other times, it can take months before a decision over a show’s future is made

Liaison did not get the best of receptions. Spy shows are hit and miss given the sheer volume of such stories coming out. But the more damaging factor that makes us say the below is that the viewership count just never picked up. Episode 1 was quite high but it suddenly dropped post the second episode.

Given how the show is set up, we’re going out on a limb and predicting that this will not be renewed for a second season. Neither are the views good nor is the reaction from the major stakeholders.

We’ll be sure to update this section with accurate details over the coming weeks and months when we know more!

What we know about season 2 so far:

Barely anything is known about season 2 at this point, given Apple has not green-lit a sequel. If this is renewed, expect to see more of Alison and Gabriel together, as they fell in each other’s arms and pretty much realized their love for each other at the end of the series. They ended up running away and were recruited by a different agency but their old peers have found out about them and are now chasing them. How’s that for some creativity?

As mentioned above, we predict that this will not be renewed but we do hope we’re wrong on that front. We’ll have to wait and see what happens. We’ll be sure to update this page in the future when more information is known though!

  1. I definitely like it… It was really good, and loved how it was made… Eva Green and Vincent Cassel just perfect, love the plotting as well… Love what Apple it’s doing with shows, and hope that they make a difference with bringing it back

  2. Outstanding series. Green and Cassel dazzle and are the perfect leads. Liaison should be renewed. There are a lot of fans in Apple land!

  3. finally a show worth watching. Although iuts definatly a stick with it show if you want to get the full experience. a solid 10 ! Five Star!

  4. I didn’t feel that the final episode adequately resolved important plot lines. It felt like to much footage was left on the editing room floor. I liked the show but felt the last couple of episodes jumped too quickly over plot details that warranted further exploration.
