Earth Abides is the latest post-apocalyptic thriller on MGM+, with 6 episodes blending dark drama with lots of time jumps along the way. So after watching it in its entirety, you may be wondering if this has been renewed or cancelled. Here’s what we know:

What is Earth Abides about?

Based on the 1949 novel by George R. Stewart, Earth Abides centers on a man named Ish, who emerges from isolation after recovering from a nasty snake bite to discover that most of humanity has been totally wiped out by a plague. Wandering this new world, Ish finds himself uncovering a whole bunch of different survivors – each more bleak and dangerous than the last.

Has Earth Abides been renewed for season 2?

At the time of writing, Earth Abides has not been renewed for season 2. Generally MGM+ and Amazon would gauge numerous metrics before renewing a show, including how many people initially watch it and then looking at the drop-off rate.

With some shows, cancellations or renewals happen quickly. Other times, it can take months before a decision over a show’s future is made.

So far, Earth Abides has had a mixed reaction from critics and audiences alike, with many commenting (including ourselves) that the pacing is super slow and the time jumps do this one zero favours.

Given the way this show is set up, we’re predicting that this will not be renewed for a second season. The series does have plenty of potential but its also been billed as a limited series, so it doe sseem incredibly unlikely.

However, we could be completely wrong, given this show does seem like the typical post-apocalyptic fare that usually does good numbers, but it’s not making massive waves across the entertainment spectrum either. So I guess we’ll have to wait and see with this one!

What we know about season 2 so far:

Barely anything is known about season 2 at this point as MGM+ and Amazon haven’t officially renewed this one. Should it be renewed, we have some big questions. Will we continue with Ish and the kids going forward? Will the show continue to follow the book or branch out in its own direction?

It seems unlikely for the reasons detailed above, but if this series is renewed, we’d expect it to be green-lit with another 6 episode order, and bring back a lot of the old cast too.

  7. Season 2 ? I didn’t see any Clifhanger at all , maybe it could be another Story , with different Characters , or the others that Ish jad contact , love to see their story.

  9. Absolutely loved it. Way more realistic than most other apocalyptic shows.
    The reviews from the public are almost all positive.
    To not renew this show would be a huge mistake as a 2nd season would really give it a chance to succeed.

  11. I totally love the show!! I’m so excited every time I see an episode is available to watch! I wanna know what happens when they leave to go find the other 77 people!! how does their lives go from there? What is the other group like etc. etc.!! the 50 year jump was kind of crazy but I guess I understand because they needed to end it somewhere, but I thought it was kind of crazy to jump a whole 50 years! Keep the minimal time jumps and please continue this show. It’s amazing.!!!

  14. Loved the show , but I feel the last episode was way rushed .
    Would have liked to see the survivors join together and what happens along the way.
    Seems to have been rushed into finishing . Didn’t like that at all

  20. It’s been awhile since there has been a series that I really looked forward to each week. I really loved this show and would love to see what happens with the new group they found.

  22. There needs to be a season 2!! I absolutely loved the show. The time jumps were ok, but just spaced too far out. I loved everything about this show.

    Yes, the show has a few holes .. like… where did all the other dogs go, for instance.
    But its definitely watchable.
    I am up for a season two. It hasn’t jumped the shark yet.

  27. I loved this series! It has way too much potential to let it go! I believe this could be another hit series, that ranks up there with the series The Walking Dead! At least it doesn’t have a bunch of dead people in it!
    I vote you bring it back with a season 2!!!

  28. I loved the show. I had no problem with the time jumps. Sometimes, if there isnt time jumps, a show gets bogged down, and becomes boring.
    I would like to see a 2nd season with their journey to California, and their new life there!!

  30. My husband and I couldn”t wait to see it after the preview we saw. Watched the whole season and wanted to see more but unfortunately only 6 episodes, bummer! Anyway we really are hoping for more seasons, love everything about it, please bring it back!!!

  31. PLEASE give this show a chance! Absolutely love it, it’s not like your everyday apocalyptic show. If you stop at one season I will be so let down. Don’t end the show like this.

  32. Hope to see another few seasons, definitely a good show and realistic of what could happen, pick up where they go look for the other survivors back play that last 50year jump scene its a little too much, slow the time jumps down a year or two per. Episode is good.

  40. Please please let there be a Season two, it showing during crisis how people pull together love some disagreement this is what families do, in the end . Different nationality. Yes one blood color, and it all equal out to.how love at the end of humanity God chose very few, and they showed that with families love . God is in the mix, evven with the dis believers that God look in to there hearts and he found true love. So I’m asking plz let there be a 2nd Season. Thank you

  41. I love this series. Very intelligent. It takes you into what really could happen after such a plague, how to search and survive. The acting are all great, I love Ish. Please renew this adult series. So many shows now are just dumb. Please, please.

  45. I think the time jumps were a mistake for the longevity of the show, which is a great shame. I enjoyed the show immensely, but felt that alot of development was missing due to the expanse of the time jumps.
    Read the book. The book is also good.

  57. Saw the first 10 mins of this show as a teaser at the end of From and I was hooked I need more of this and I hope we get another season. Yes time jumps are abit annoying but I’m really enjoying it. Alot of potential

  59. i love the show as well just a shame that we cant watch it officially in europe to bump up the numbers. only online on 3th party websites. but its amazing. i do feel at some point they have to slow down on the time jumps so they can really focus on the story and characters. i dont mind time jumps but not big ones and not to often. but i do understand its better for the kids to grow up instead of watching them grow up nobody is really waiting for that.

  63. I really like this show it has a lot of promise I do agree about the time shifts and stuff but I feel that they can fine tune this show I love the characters I hope it gets a second series 🙏🙏🙏
