Doctor Cha is a brilliant K-drama, one managing to blend drama, comedy and romance together in the best possible way. If you’ve been following this one, you may be wondering if this has been renewed or cancelled. Here’s what we know:

What is Doctor Cha Season 1 about?

Doctor Cha is the latest medical drama that brings together an eclectic group of talented actors, and throws them into the medical field. Specifically, our main character here is Cha Jeong-suk, who’s married to In-ho, the resident chief surgeon at a university hospital. He’s cold hearted, is having an affair on his wife, and is pretty petty too.

Jeong-suk has been a housewife for the past 20 years since getting her medical licence, but after surviving a life-threatening illness, after initially giving up her career as a doctor, she’s determined not just to survive – but to thrive. And this comes from getting back into the medical field.

Has Doctor Cha been renewed for season 2?

At the time of writing, JTBC have not renewed Doctor Cha for season 2. Given the ratings over the weeks, it’ll be interesting to see if they actually do renew this for a follow-up.

The ratings began with a pretty decent 4.93% share nationwide but since then, the show has been increasing in popularity with every passing week, with the later episodes hitting upwards of 16% nationwide.

Despite the strong ratings, it’s extremely rare to find Korean dramas renewed for another season. That has changed in recent years but given the sheer wealth of talent in this that are sure to move onto other projects, we predict that Doctor Cha will not be renewed for a second season.

What we know about season 2 so far:

Barely anything is known about season 2 right now. Given most Korean dramas are reserved to one season, it’s rare to find these sort of shows renewed. With the rare exception of ongoing Netflix shows (Love ft. Marriage and Divorce, Hospital Playlist etc.) then it seems unlikely that this one will be renewed.

Having said that though, we have seen Taxi Driver and Tale of the Nine Tailed renewed recently. Given how steady the ratings are for this series, could we see this one buck the trend? It seems very unlikely that Doctor Cha will, but you never know! We’ll be sure to update this section when we know more.

  4. I LOVE Dr. Cha’s series. I was so sad that it ended and mostly that she and Professor Kim didn’t get together! I don’t speak Korean or understand it so I have to read the subtitles. I am amazed that Korean shows are so interesting and down to earth. Thank you for creating this show and I really hope and pray that there will be a lot more than two seasons!

  6. Omg definitely Dr cha should be renewed. I want her to find romance with Dr. Roy! I absolutely fell in love with all the characters, the depth of each character, the plot was fantastic. The drama and comedy was so enjoyable This writer is awesome.

  8. I was so hoping that Dr Cha ended up with Dr Roy I must say that I am disappointed with the ending. The show needs to be renewed because I want to see Cha and Roy together

  12. Absolutely brilliant!!! I simply am on edge for more Dr. Cha! With a season done so well, it’s scares me if the follow can match or exceed that quality. However, I am definitely willing to see!

  26. Please make at least 4 seasons of this show!!! It is amazing and so engaging! There is soooooo much to still find out about the characters!!! Please this show MUST BE RENEWED!!!!
