Dance Monsters is the latest reality series competition on Netflix, bringing together dancers from all backgrounds to try and wow the judges – and the audience. The winner walks away with a cool $250,000 in cash so there’s a lot to play for. After finishing the whole series, you may be wondering if this has been renewed or cancelled. Here’s what we know:

What is Dance Monsters Season 1 about?

The premise is simple and brings together 15 contestants who are turned into CGI creatures via the magic of mo-cap to perform in front of audiences. Of course, given how janky motion capture actually is in real life, a lot of what’s here falls on the editing team to match up the dancers backstage with their digital avatars shown on-stage with audiences.

The result is clever to those at home, as it really feels like these monsters are actually out in force. In reality though, it’s probably just an empty stage these guys are reacting to. Once that illusion is broken, the audience reactions – complete with the usual gaggle of clapping, gasping and standing ovation

Has Dance Monsters been renewed for season 2?

At the time of writing, Dance Monsters has not been renewed for a second season. Given the nature of the show’s content, we expected a renewal. 

However, it has now been confirmed that Dance Monsters will not be renewed for Season 2. 

Generally Netflix gauge numerous metrics before renewing a show, including how many people initially watch it and then looking at the drop-off rate. With some shows, cancellations or renewals happen quickly (ala. Squid Game, Bridgerton & Irregulars) Other times, it can take months before Netflix make a decision over a show’s future.

So far, Dance Monsters has had a pretty mixed reaction from audiences, with many pointing out the same as ourselves that the “fake” audience reaction to what are otherwise empty stages (the CGI monsters are input after filming) does cheapen the experience.

Given the way this show is set up, we predicted that this would be renewed for a second season. It’s the typical reality series format that appeals to the masses and follows a lot of the hallmarks that have made X-Factor and America’s Got Talent so successful over the years. But the show has now been cancelled. 

We’ll be sure to update this section with accurate details over the coming weeks and months when we know more!

What we know about season 2 so far:

Barely anything is known about season 2 at this point, given Netflix have not green-lit a sequel. However, if this is renewed expect a very similar format, with plenty more monsters, lots of talking points and big reveals during eliminations.

  1. My 8 year old and I LOVED this show! We wish they brought it back for season two! We were so ready & loved the reveal every single time! Happy for the winner he killed it from the very beginning but all the dancers were so fun to watch. Especially the superpower episode. Fingers crossed they’ll bring it back!!!

  2. I so want this show to come back for more seasons. It is really fun to watch and I absolutely love the dynamic of it. My kids enjoy it especially my 3 year old. She loves scary things and the fact it’s cute scary is the best. Please please renew, I’ll start a petition if you want.

    Hammer got way too far and I feel may have paid off some judges, but was glad Chester and Grummy were in the finals! Please bring this show back for another season! 🙏

  6. OH MY GOD I LOOOVE this show, especially with my favorite dancer “GRUMMY the mummy”. He has really insoried me to dance at home and all the other dance monsters on that show were a hit. I would love to see a season 2 because I am addicted to this show. I wonder if they allow 16 year olds to dance on there because I would LOVE to dance on there and show my moves aswell! Thank you so much netflix for an addictive show! PLEASE have a season 2 come out soon!

  7. My kids and I also really loved it. They got to look at many different styles and have fun giving their own feedback to decide who they thought did best. We have watched the entire first season multiple times and would really like to watch another season.

  10. I loved Dance Monsters. I have watched it at least 20 times and love watching them dance every time I watch. The dancers were great and so were the judges. Hard to wait for the next season and I hope it will get renewed.

It’s so awesome to see true talents rewarded blindly.. love that we see their dance moves, not their body type or skin color or their looks, but their true talents shine Thru those monsters and take all other prejudices away. Their artistry speaks volumes and makes this show fantastic.
    This is the best reality program I’ve seen yet!
