City on Fire is the latest drama, coming right from the heart of the executive producers of Gossip Girl. After finishing all 8 episodes, you may be wondering if this has been renewed or cancelled. Here’s what we know:

What is City on Fire about?

The setting is the fourth of July, and a college student called Sam is shot in Central Park. As Detectives McFadden and Parsa start to investigate the scene, a spring of citywide fires start and rattle the locals. In the wake of this, we follow Charlie, a young man who becomes entangled with Sam and determined to find out the truth.

With Sam in a coma, and a whole rabble of characters caught up in this mess, what ensues from here is a balance of interpersonal character drama and pockets of action, as the truth is finally unveiled at the end.

Has City on Fire been renewed for season 2?

At the time of writing, AppleTV+ has not renewed City on Fire for season 2. Given Apple’s track record for renewing a lot of its shows, it’s actually pretty surprising then to learn that this one actually been cancelled.

Generally Apple and other streamers gauge numerous metrics before renewing a show, including how many people initially watch it and then looking at the drop-off rate. With some shows, cancellations or renewals happen quickly (ala. Squid Game, Bridgerton & Shantaram) Other times, it can take months before a decision over a show’s future is made.

City on Fire has had a pretty poor reaction from critics and audiences, with a lot commenting on the laborious pace and how drawn out this story has been. It seems audiences have agreed because this one will not be coming back. 

What we know about season 2 so far:

Barely anything is known as season 2 at this point as Apple have only just confirmed a cancellation for this. Unless by some miracle another studio shows up and decides to take it on, then this looks to be the end of the road for this crime drama.

  2. They didn’t renew Shantaram despite leaving on a major cliffhanger. They canceled Mosquito Coast despite it only just starting to segue into where the book actually starts. Apple is annoying.

  5. Can’t wait for season 2. I loved the drama and suspense of this show. I’ve shared it with so many people now and they all loved it as well. With such a cliffhanger at the end of episode 8, there just needs to be a second season.
