The Beauty Queen of Jerusalem is the latest Israeli political drama on Netflix, based on the books sporting the same name. With each season running for over 15 episodes, there’s certainly lots to whet the appetite here!

If you’ve finished watching this one, you may be wondering if this has been renewed or cancelled. Here’s what we know so far:

What is The Beauty Queen of Jerusalem about?

Set in the 1900’s, The Beauty Queen of Jerusalem is set right in the midst of the Ottoman Empire, The British Mandate and Israel’s War of Independence. This multi-generational melodrama revolves around a family whose housecleaner, Rosa, weds a shopkeeper who loves another woman, a choice that impacts her dynamic with the eldest daughter Luna for decades.

Across the two seasons, we not only see Rosa’s story but also Luna’s, as the pair experience love and loss amidst sociopolitical turmoil.

Has The Beauty Queen of Jerusalem been renewed for season 3?

At the time of writing, Netflix have not renewed The Beauty Queen of Jerusalem for a third season. Given the nature of this series, that could change if it does good numbers for the streamers.

Generally Netflix, like other streaming platforms, gauge numerous metrics before renewing a show, including how many people initially watch it and then looking at the drop-off rate. With some shows, cancellations or renewals happen quickly (ala. Squid Game, Bridgerton etc.) Other times, it can take months before Netflix make a decision over a show’s future.

So far, The Beauty Queen of Jerusalem has had a good reaction from audiences and critics alike, with the series easy to watch and also armed with a simple but effective hook, making for a really enjoyable binge-watch. 

Given how well this series has done in the past, and the streamer’s desire for more foreign content, we predict that Netflix will renew The Beauty Queen of Jerusalem for a follow-up season. Now, that could change but this seems like there’s more to come in the future.

Not much is known about season 3 at the time of writing, given Netflix have not officially renewed this one yet.   57. I would love to see a season 3. I loved Luna’s jouney into dress making, cried at Davids fall into abuse. The dynamics of the family who each have thier own story to tell. The story feels real and every one of us can relate to a character.
    On top of that I love Israel and enjoyed the language and the different time periods. This has been one of my favourite series. You certainly could go down a rabbit hole with this story!

I would love to see more of what happens to the delicatessen, the with Safta’s relationship, Luna’s sisters and parents.
