Aggretsuko is a wonderful anime, one that plays out as a combination of comedy, romance and slice of life drama. After finishing the whole series, you may be wondering if this has been renewed or cancelled. Here’s what we know:

What is Aggretsuko Season 5 about?

Following the events of season 4, Aggretsuko picks up and switches its focus between Haida and Retsuko for much of the run-time. Haida is now unemployed and struggling to focus. He pours all of his time into online gaming, becoming addicted to an adventure game and eating up Retsuko’s wage with numerous microtransactions. It looks set to destroy their relationship completely.

By comparison, Retsuko has stresses of her own at work, not to mention her family’s growing pressure on wanting to meet her “hotshot” boyfriend whom Retsuko claims is still an accountant.

As the episodes progress, Haida’s journey of self-discovery sees him take on several different jobs, find kinship in a gamer girl called Shikabane and even discover the woes of customer service. He also butts heads with his family too and, in particular, his “boomer” father who made his wealth in the bubble economy. Haida’s issues are only compounded further by his brother Jiro, who makes a big announcement in episode 6 that sets up a big showdown in the episodes ahead.

Has Aggretsuko been renewed for season 6?

At the time of writing, Aggretsuko has not been renewed for a sixth season. Given the nature of the show’s content, that could well change if it does good numbers for Netflix.

Generally, Netflix and other streamers gauge numerous metrics before renewing a show, including how many people initially watch it and then looking at the drop-off rate. The completion rate is one of the most important metrics though, but it’s not something publicly shared with audiences.

With some shows, cancellations or renewals happen quickly. Other times, it can take months before Netflix make a decision over a show’s future.

So far, Aggretsuko has had a pretty good reaction from critics and audiences alike, commending the balance of comedy and drama. However, this season was billed as the fifth and final season so it seems highly unlikely that this one will be returning. The ending also pitch perfect too, wrapping up all the big plot points in a very satisfying manner.

Based on this, we’re predicting that this will not be renewed for a sixth season, however if that changes we’ll be sure to update this article.

What we know about season 6 so far:

Barely anything is known about season 6 at this point, given Netflix have not officially green-lit a sequel. However, if this is renewed it will likely come in the form of either a spin-off or a sequel of some description, given Aggretsuko’s journey has come full circle.

As mentioned above, this was advertised as the final season but we’ll have to wait and see what happens. We’ll be sure to update this page in the future when more information is known though!
