Renewed Or Cancelled?
Accused, the American adaptation of the British show of the same name, is produced by Fox and retains the show’s original format. However, there are notable changes in cultural and thematic elements to cater to an American audience. This crime drama centres around the “accused,” exploring the events that led to their situation.
With intricate plot twists and depth, the show manages to surprise viewers, especially in the first half of the season. Nevertheless, the series has received polarized reactions from the audience due to the writers’ bold approach to distinguishing their content.
After finishing the show, you may be wondering if this has been renewed or cancelled. Here’s what we know:
What is Accused Season 1 about?
Like its British counterpart, the Fox show follows an anthology format; every episode presents a new case. Each time, we witness a fresh “accused” grappling with the consequences of their actions and the reactions of those around them. The series delves into contemporary issues with gripping storylines that explore the complexities of the human experience.
From the impact of school shootings to the struggle of youth mental health, and the ethical dilemmas surrounding adoption and abortion, Accused brings to light a myriad of relevant topics. It also challenges us to consider the nuances of moral quandaries in surrogacy and the fragile nature of race relations.
Has Accused been renewed for season 2?
Accused has been officially renewed by Fox as part of its programming schedule for the next year. The network had indicated its intention to renew back in March of this year when Accused had only aired 10 episodes and they finally made it official through this Twitter post. The show has been a solid performer for the network since its January premiere. Its debut episode ranks as television’s highest-rated drama debut in two years. Season-to-date, the show is averaging 7.5 million multi-platform viewers.
Hence, the renewal was no surprise. What we cannot confirm at this point is the length of the show. Fox did not announce if Accused was been renewed with a full-season pickup or if the new season would be truncated with a different number. Generally, traditional network studios do not give a full-season pick-up if the show hasn’t exceeded expectations in terms of ratings. But that has not been a problem for Accused, so it can be expected that we will have yet another 15-part season 2 for the show.
What we know about season 2 so far:
Season 2 of Accused is set to air on October 1 at 8 pm (ET).
Howard Gordon, the show’s creator, was at hand to discuss how he is approaching the next season. He discussed plans for season 2 with Deadline. An excerpt from the same is reproduced here, which points towards a largely similar approach to the subject matter with differing storytelling techniques.
“There was one that I couldn’t make work last year that I think I cracked. So there are ones that I’m very excited about. We’re even talking about possibly changing some of the form, which is to say, some episodes may not be set in the present but actually may be set in the future or even in the past. So the time itself is as a character in the format.”
If there are any significant updates about the plot or release date of Accused’s season 2, then we’ll be sure to update this section and let you all know.
