Episode 4 Recap: The Fight For Wow Foundation
We begin our recap of Red Swan episode 4 with the staff excitedly talking about their favourite show and getting distracted as Do-hyun sneaks into the control room and copies videos from Yong-guk’s office. He is nearly caught by Lee-jin but he quickly explains that he was there to talk to the butler who wasn’t in.
Later, Yong-guk summons Do-hyun to his office to ask why he intervened in his marital matters with Wan-soo. Do-hyun quickly apologises and Yong-guk acts like it is all water under the bridge. After this, Do-hyun returns to his room to watch the videos he copied. In one video, he comes across Yong-guk giving Kyeong-gu money in a black bag and wonders what Yong-guk is up to. Based on his experience, Do-hyun thinks the money is too much for an assassination job.
At the house, Wan-soo orders the butler Byeon to give Jun-hee a different room and leave Chan-hee’s old room as it is. Chairwoman Park takes this as a sign of Wan-soo challenging her but agrees to let the issue rest. She is planning on a bigger revenge on Wan-soo with the help of her secretary, Du-o.
Meanwhile, Wan-soo talks to her brother, making plans to get Chairwoman Park away from the foundation. She orders her brother to leak information about Yong-guk’s affair and his illegitimate son. The media pounces on the story, taking the Hwain Group by surprise. Chairwoman Park calls for an impromptu meeting and warns Wan-soo from speaking publicly on the matter. She also asks her to take a break from the Foundation and quit.
At the same time, Ta-era asks Wan-soo to stop the press but Wan-soo feels less inclined to help her husband’s shameless mistress. The company’s stocks plummet and Chairwoman Park and Du-o try to get a way out of the mess. Feeling cornered, Wan-soo orders her secretary to schedule a press conference for the next day. However, the secretary worries that this will agitate Chairwoman Park further and offers to inform the lady after scheduling the press conference. In the midst of all these, Yong-min, Yong-huk’s brother watches in fascination as his brother continues to bring shame to the company and stress their mom.
The following day, Chairwoman Park cunningly schedules a meeting with a female minister and brings Wan-soo along. She hopes that Wan-soo will be unable to attend the press conference, but the latter sneaks out of the meeting with Do-hyun’s help. Chairwoman Park is shocked, but not as much as when Wan-soo publicly denies the rumours of her husband’s affair.
In fact, Wan-soo says that Jun-hee is the illegitimate son of the late chairman and is, therefore, Yong-guk’s brother. Well, we gotta give her props for messing with the Chairwoman like this. It takes a lot of courage to publicly confront your wealthy and powerful mother-in-law. Even Yong-guk is pleased with his wife’s guts. As for Ta-era, she is beyond infuriated.
After the press conference, Wan-soo returns home to face Chairwoman Park face to face. She remains stoic as her mother-in-law lashes out at her. Chairwwoman Park mocks her for wanting to change the world while Wan-soo points out she works more than Yong-guk. She demands that Chairwoman Park keep her sticky hands out of Wow Foundation’s funds. She remains adamant that the Wow Foundation is her legacy and no one will taint it. As expected, Chairwoman Park doesn’t take this quietly.
Meanwhile, Kyeong-ju lays it hard on Do-hyun for helping Wan-soo sneak into the press conference. Do-hyun apologises and asks to be given full rein over the RF team, including Yong-guk’s team, but Kyeong-ju refuses.
A few days later, Jun-hee and Ta-era move into the Grand Palace, but Wan-soo warns Tae-ra to keep to her lane and openly refers to her as a mistress. Ta-era has a hard time settling in as the staff openly mocks her. Later, Wan-soo heads for a run and calls Do-hyun to escort her. This time, she tells him about why she chose to stay in her marriage. Do-hyun admits that he helped her get to the press conference because he was hoping she would announce her divorce. He asks what she is trying so hard to protect. Through a flashback, we go back to her conversation with Chairman Park. Her father-in-law asked her to stay put until a certain truth came to light. Whatever that was, it is yet to come out and Wan-soo can’t leave just yet.
She tells him that she would rather die than have to beg to live her life as she sees fit. This worries Do-hyun and he blurts out more about Ju-hyuk. This time, he shares his suspicion that the Hwain Group is behind her assassination attempt. Wan-soo listens but is in disbelief. She outright tells him that she can’t trust anyone and asks for evidence.
The following morning, Chairwoman Park insists that the family has dinner at Yong-min’s place. She orders Wan-soo to deliver an expensive wine bottle before the dinner party, but Wan-soo initially refuses. Do-hyun steps up and advises her to go. At the house, Young-min intentionally breaks the wine bottle and uses the one in her cellar. It seems Young-min is jealous since Wan-soo is more competent than her and Chairwoman Park relies on her more. Also, Wan-soo’s recent troubles have affected her since everyone wants to gossip about her in-laws.
At the dinner party, Chairwoman Park tries to corner Wan-soo to help Young-min’s family company get into the Chinese market. However, Wan-soo uses this as a bargaining chip to get Chairwoman Park to back off the Wow Foundation. Still, Chairwoman Park refuses to give in. She shows up uninvited to the Foundation’s event and is offended to see Wan-soo wearing the same outfit as her. Nonetheless, the media praises Wan-soo’s style more and Chairwoman Park gets even more frustrated. To calm down, she has a spat with her bodyguards, but Do-hyun refuses to let her embarrass him. He takes her down without as much as an apology. However, this only gets more attention, and the Chairwoman starts to fancy him.
Later, Chairwoman Park summons Wan-soo and informs her that she put her mom in a locked mental health facility. However, she plans to make it look like Wan-soo openly disposed of her mom. Chairwoman Park also reveals that Wan-soo’s mom is on her last days. Wan-soo is beyond shocked and makes plans to visit her mom at the facility. The episode ends with Wan-soo entering her mom’s room and screaming while Do-hyun rushes to her.
The Episode Review
In this recap, we shift from the mystery of the Chairman’s death to Wan-soo and Chairwoman Park’s fight to take over the Foundation. The two women are both formidable in their own ways, making their fight quite interesting. On one hand, we have Wan-soo who is willing to welcome her husband’s mistress into her home if it means she gets to keep the foundation. On the other hand, we have Chairwoman Park, who loves to torment Wan-soo and is ready to hit below the belt to win.
We still have six chapters, so we can expect to see more about the mystery surrounding the Chairman and Ju-hyuk’s death. We are also curious to see what happened with Wan-soo’s mom and how Chairwoman Park will use this to her advantage. We are also dying to see more of Do-hyun and Wan-soo teaming together to take down the Hwain Group.
