Change The Game
Reasonable doubt Season 2 episode 8 picks up where we left off, with Lewis’s sincere love confession to Jax. His words move Jax, and she confesses she wants and loves him too. The two end up making love the whole night.
They wake up in great spirits the next morning and Spenser asks if they figured things out. Lewis also informs Jax that Terrence, his brother, will drop by later that evening. The family happily enjoys their morning, and it seems Jax and Lewis are blissfully ignoring the elephant in the room. Shouldn’t they be talking about what happens next?
Jax heads to the office, feeling like she is on cloud nine. Corey apologizes for his behavior the previous night and promises to keep things professional moving forward. The two turn their attention to the case. They have a line-up of witnesses who can prove Shanelle’s innocence in the money scam. However, they need more witnesses to prove that Shanelle didn’t plan the murder.
Unfortunately, one of the witnesses they are looking to contact already gave the media an interview. Corey thinks it will look bad for Shanelle since the prosecution will try to paint Sally as a fame seeker. Jax argues that they can watch the interview before deciding on whether to put her on the stand. Still, Corey remains adamant that Shanelle can take the stand and tell her story. They only need to prep her well.
Later, Corey and Jax call their witnesses and try to establish that Shanelle did not know about Tucker’s betting scam. He tricked her into signing some legal documents, but she had no access to the money. Corey paints this situation as financial abuse. Lucy also comes strong in her cross-examination, but by the looks of it, Shanelle’s team is doing a better job.
After court, Jax picks up Spenser and teases him for having a crush on a girl, Aisha. She then heads to couples therapy with Lewis. The two admit they still have a lot to work on. Jax is not happy that Lewis told Terrence about their situation. The therapist asks them to have hard conversations and decide what they will do together.
For starters, he asks the two to talk to Toni. Jax and Lewis visit Toni’s house and talk. Lewis makes it clear that Jax will help in co-parenting. Toni agrees and announces she is having a boy. Although things are rocky between Jax and Ton, they both try to keep their cool.
On the weekend, Spenser asks to practice with a few people at Aisha’s. Lewis and Jax say it is cool if Aisha’s parents will be there. Spenser explains that Aisha’s dad will be there and Lewis agrees to drop him off.
The couple has been trying to give Spenser more freedom. However, Aisha’s dad ends up leaving for a work meeting. The kids start doing drugs and Spenser refuses to do the heavy drugs but agrees to vape
Elsewhere, Lucy meets with her lawyer and discusses the custody hearing of her son. The lawyer believes Lucy has a good chance of winning full custody. However, Peter was arrested for a DUI and gun possession. Lucy never reported the abuse he inflicted on her. She also never told her son the truth about his dad.
In the next hearing, Corey and Jax do a good job of proving that Shanelle’s signature on the financial documents linked to her husband were fake. After the hearing, Jax’s mom calls her and invites the family for lunch on Saturday. She wants Jax and the family to meet her new man.
Later that night, Terrence drops Naima at the house and talks to Jax. Terrence explains his concern over Jax’s ability to stick it out with Lewis. He believes Jax is not all in with Lewis’s baby. He accuses her of hurting Lewis before and he doesn’t want it to happen again. He even brings up her ex-boyfriend during the couple’s break. Fortunately, Lewis arrives before things escalate between the two.
On the weekend, the family except Spenser heads over to Jax’s house. Lewis and Jax take a quick liking to the new man dating Jax’s mom. However, Naima hesitates since she thinks he is trying to replace her grandfather.
Lewis advises her not to be afraid of love and assures her that a new family member is a good thing. He tells her that it means she has more people to love and vice versa. His words stir something up in Jax.
The next week, Jax runs into Lucy at the school. They both brought pastries bought from the bakery instead of baking them. It goes without saying that they get judged for not bringing gluten-free snacks.
Lucy and Jax decide to take a smoking break and start bonding over the male figures in their lives. Jax acknowledges Lucy is a good single mom. They joke around and get harshly judged by one of the faculty members for smoking.
Concurrently, Lewis drops by Toni’s house to talk about the birth plan. He is surprised that Toni wants a home birth with her midwife. She also wants Lewis to help her throughout after the birth. He asks to check with Jax first and Toni threatens to keep him away from the child if he can’t be fully committed.
Back at the courthouse, Sally loses her cool when testifying. Lucy triggers her and she ends up saying Tucker deserved to die. This hurts Shanelle’s defense, and Corey and Jax are forced to think of a new strategy. Corey hopes that Daniel will be able to find one of Tucker’s ex-girlfriends in time to testify for Shanelle.
Sadly, Shanelle returns to her cell that evening and learns her neighbouring cellmate committed suicide. Baker’s suicide affects her a lot since they had gotten close throughout her incarceration. It doesn’t help that Adrian visits her and apologizes. He also proposes to her. This gives her a lot to think about.
Later that evening, Lewis returns home drunk after partying with Terrence. He tells Jax about Toni’s threats and begs her for forgiveness again. He admits that he wishes he never messed up and feels guilty for not wanting the baby.
The following morning, Jax assures Lewis that she is in it for the long haul and asks him to stop begging for forgiveness. She admits that it is hard to forgive him, but every time he apologises, it doesn’t make her feel any better. She believes he does it to make himself feel better, and it is not fair. Lewis agrees and thanks her for being honest.
At the court, Corey gives in and allows Jax to bring in the clerk who gave a media interview to the stand. Even though Lucy paints her as a fame-hungry woman, the lady does her best to defend Shanelle. Her testimony moves the jury as she explains how Shanelle was scared to seek help and left without filing for a restraining order.
The testimony helps undo the damage from Sally’s interview. Corey later admits that Jax was right and thanks her. He also tells her that Lewis is a lucky man for having her.
Later, Autumn Visits Shanelle and they have an honest conversation about their relationship. Autumn feels she let Shanelle down and that is why the latter never told her about the abuse. Shanelle explains she felt small and inadequate compared to the girls, thanks to Tucker’s abuse. Autumn assures Shanelle that she is worthy of love and they will help her get her freedom back.
In the evening, Jax picks up Naima and runs into Toni. She reminds Toni to stay in her lane and stop threatening Lewis. Jax clarifies that she is ready to fight for her family. However, Jax fails to mention her encounter with Toni to Lewis that evening.
Meanwhile, Lucy learns that Peter got joint custody, and it shakes her whole world up. On the other side of town, Daniel finds Tucker’s ex and tries to convince her to testify in Shanelle’s defense.
The episode ends with Shanelle calling Sally and saying that things have gotten out of hand. She figures it is time to say the truth. Sally agrees but insists on talking in person only.
The Episode Review
Wow! It turns out that Sally might be Tucker’s killer. I didn’t see that twist coming, but looking back; it was right under our noses this whole time. Sally has been so defensive when it comes to Shanelle. It also explains why she was ready to mortgage their house for Shanelle’s bail.
Naturally, we thought it was because Shanelle is family, but it was probably out of guilt. At this point in her defense, won’t it be better for Shanelle to keep quiet? It looks like she is about to win the case.
If she can hold on for a few days until Tucker’s ex testifies, then she might walk away free. No one would ever know the truth apart from her and Sally. However, everything now depends on Tucker’s ex and who knows if she will testify!
On the other hand, what is Adrian thinking? Why propose now? He is still acting fishy and I hope and pray Shanelle will turn down his proposal. She just got out of a marriage which ended with her in jail, accused of murdering her husband. She needs time to process being alone before jumping into a new marriage. Especially with a man like Adrian, who lied to her before.
As for Lewis and Jax, let us see how this goes. Jax is going to snap at some point because Toni will use this baby as a power move against Lewis. I hope Toni knows who she is messing with. Jax isn’t one to play with! Did you all notice how Toni seemed in pain before getting into her car after her confrontation with Jax? If she has a miscarriage, she will probably blame Jax for antagonizing her.
