Reasonable Doubt – Season 2 Episode 7 “Venus vs. Mars” Recap & Review

Venus vs. Mars

Episode 7 of Reasonable Doubt Season 2 starts picks up where we left off, with Lewis trying to explain to Jax how he got Toni pregnant. He explains that he forgot to wear a condom. However, he says that he wanted to wait until he got confirmation from the DNA test.

An angry Jax argues that he has been lying to her for weeks and had multiple chances to tell her the truth. Jax is convinced that Lewis is getting back at her for her affair with Damon.

She kicks him out of the house and tries to come to terms with the new reality that her husband might be having another kid with another woman. Lewis later texts her, telling her to take her time to process.

She starts thinking about the first time she met Lewis after a minor fender-bender accident. He soon asked her on a date. They fell in love and the rest, as they say, is history.

The next day, Corey learns that Krystal has been working on getting her law license. He encourages her to tell Jax, but Krystal is hesitant. At the same time, Jax is acting weird, which causes Corey to ask if she is okay.

Jax insists she is and Corey informs her that Lucy is calling Toni as her next witness. He suggests that Jax takes the cross since she is a woman. The optics will look bad if Corey slut-shames Toni in court. As the day progresses, Jax asks to take half the day off.

Meanwhile, Lucy is dealing with a nightmare of her own as her ex-husband makes a return. He accosts her at her office, and she asks the security guard to escort him out. Peter is deluded enough to think he still has a chance with Lucy and he wants a second chance. He later sends her a subpoena when she refuses his advances.

Later, Jax and Lewis meet at their couple therapy session and discuss the latest turn of events. Jax admits she is having a hard time. She always thought she could trust Lewis and feels extremely let down. She is also worried about having to deal with Toni in court.

She uses some choice words to express her frustration and Lewis pops off, too. He brings up her affair with Damon, which ended with her nearly dying and him helping her through the trauma. We gotta admit, the man has some valid points. The therapist asks them to take time to think about whether they want to break -up or work on the relationship.

Jax has dinner with her girls and Sally insists that Jax needs to focus on Shanelle’s case. Speaking of Sally, she is still on bad terms with her husband and is not thrilled that Lewis is temporarily staying with them.

Chris refuses to go to couples therapy and tells Lewis he can’t be sad to make everyone happy. Lewis starts looking back into his relationship with Jax. In particular, he recalls the time the couple was having a hard time getting intimate after the birth of their first kid.

Tucker advised Lewis to consider attending a sex club with Jax. In the end, Jax agreed, and they were able to get their groove back.

Meanwhile, Jax struggles to get through the weekend without Lewis. She spends it crying in her bed. The following week, Jax tries to focus on the case. She and Corey plan their next approach.

Additionally, she has a one-on-one session with their couples therapist who asks if she has ever felt unconditional love. He thinks Jax never had it and it might be why she is having trouble forgiving Lewis.

In court, Toni takes the stand and tries to paint Shanelle as an angry, vindictive woman who iced her out after learning about her affair with Tucker. However, Jax points out the irony of Toni to expect Shanelle to be cool with her after learning about her betrayal. She also gets Toni to admit on record that she doesn’t know for sure who the father of her baby is.

After the hearing, Shanelle notices Jax is struggling and confronts her. Jax reveals Toni was also sleeping with Lewis and the baby might be her husband’s. Shanelle comforts Jax and tries to encourage her.

Later that night, she finds Lewis at home and he informs her that Toni is indeed having his kid. Jax has no time to react as the kids show up for dinner. After dinner, she locks herself in the bathroom and cries. Lewis tries to comfort her, but she kicks him out.

Back at the office, Corey, Jax and Krystal start looking into the FBI’s evidence against Evans. After learning that Krystal is planning to join law school, Jax encourages her.

In the end, Jax offers to stay back with Corey and go through the files together. She calls Lewis to ask him to watch the kids and they get into a fight when he says he has urgent work commitments, too. Eventually, Jax calls her mom for help.

Looking back, Lewis has always felt like Jax doesn’t understand his career or fully believe in him. In his solo therapy session, he admits he finds it unfair that he is always doing everything to save their marriage. The therapist points out that Jax is trying, too. He advises Lewis to decide if he wants to be right or married.

Meanwhile, things get heavy between Corey and Jax when he tells her about his other case. Corey feels guilty because he initially represented the wrong side and set the culprit free. Only after the culprit went back to hurt the victim again did he realise his mistake. Unfortunately, the woman ended up killing her abuser and got a life sentence.

After a kiss, Jax pulls away and heads home. She is still looking back on her memories with Lewis, unsure if they are truly over. At Chris’s house, Lewis is doing the same. The episode ends with Lewis rushing back home to confess his undying and unconditional love to his words move Jax. Jax and asks him to wait just as he is about to leave.

The Episode Review

Hold up! Give us a moment because that was a lot to take in. Let’s start with Lewis. He made a mistake, and we understand where Jax is coming from. She has the right to get angry, but her words towards Lewis were a bit harsh.

He was also out of line for bringing up Damon the way he did. Still, Jax needs to check herself, too. She has been no saint. This time, she stopped herself from messing with Corey, but what will happen the next time it happens again?

She also needs to think carefully about her willingness to forgive Lewis. He is having a kid with Toni and she needs to be ready to deal with what that truly entails. Is she going to be comfortable having Toni in their lives moving forward?

We are also concerned about our girl, Lucy. Her ex-husband is no fun in the park. She needs to start taking extra security measures because he is coming for her. He doesn’t look or sound like someone who will play by the rules. What will happen when he loses the case and unleashes his anger on her?
