Reasonable Doubt – Season 2 Episode 3 “Part II – On The Run” Recap & Review

Part II: On The Run

Episode 3 of Reasonable Doubt Season 2 starts with Jax and Sally looking for Shanelle at her house. Sally is anxious since she put up her house to pay for Shanelle’s bail without her husband’s knowledge. If Shanelle is on the run, Sally risks losing her house.

On the other end, Corey blames Jax for messing up his initial plan. Jax thinks they need to find Shanelle before the preliminary hearing scheduled for the next day in the afternoon. With time running out, Jax and Corey don’t have time to argue about who is right. Corey suggests they ask the judge to issue a hold warrant for a couple of days, but Jax insists they wait and look for Shanelle before taking drastic measures.

Jax and Sally head back home to look through the bag Shanelle left for her daughter. They find a letter with a safe deposit key. Jax and Sally head to the bank the next day and find documents in the safe deposit box. First, Shanelle made Sally her daughter’s guardian. There were also photos of Shanelle’s beaten body. Jax worries that if Shanelle planned all these before or after, she killed Tucker.

Jax later has a panic attack and calls her husband. He helps her calm down, but she refuses to take her anxiety medication. At home, Lewis is struggling with the kids. Spenser is sick and Naima is acting out forcing Lewis to ground her. Between the kids, work and Jax, Lewis is a bit overwhelmed.

Back at the office, Daniel looks through the bank’s security system and learns that Shanelle visited the bank on the previous day. However, she wasn’t alone. She was with Adrian, Tucker’s mentee and her new lover. Ohh! The plot thickens! Corey starts to question if Shanelle and Adrian stole the money together and plan to run after killing Tucker.

Speaking of Shanelle and Adrian, they are currently hiding out in a motel. Adrian is looking into getting Shanelle on the other side of the border. However, there are some delays. Shanelle starts doubting the escape plan and admits she is scared. Adrian agrees to move to Mexico with Shanelle, claiming he loves her.

Thankfully, Daniel gets a lucky break when Adrian is spotted at an ATM near the border’s freeway. Corey insists they go to the judge and get in front of the issue. Although Jax disagrees, Corey asks her to choose between being Shanelle’s lawyer or friend. Jax shows him the pics of Shanelle’s beaten-up body and Corey convinces Jax they will need to use the pictures strategically. The two present the matter to the court and ask for 24 hours. Of course, Lucy tries to push for an arrest warrant. After the meeting, Lucy makes a statement in a press release, announcing Shanelle is on the run. Later, she informs her secretary that she has been getting weird calls from an anonymous number. For whatever reason, Lucy thinks the calls might have something to do with a man called Peter Johnson, who is in prison.

Meanwhile, Jax explains to Sally the process the court will use to collect the full bail amount once they learn Shanelle is on the run. Sally’s husband finds out what his wife did when the police show up to look for Shanelle at their house. He gets angry at Sally since he had told her not to put up their house.

Later, she agrees with Corey that they need to start changing the public opinion of Shanelle. Corey uses a social influencer’s platform to try and get ahead of the Shanelle mess. On the other hand, Daniel gets a partial plate for Adrian’s car.

He heads to the police station to ask Cynthia to run it but finds out she is no longer working there. He tries to ask another police officer to help, but he is turned down. Still, he manages to get a lead on Shanelle’s BONO alert.  At the border, Adrian is noticed by a store attendant. The store attendant gets offended when Adrian turns down his photo request and snaps a few photos. Adrian gets anxious and calls a friend to ask for a new car.

At the office, Jax breaks down, blaming herself for not knowing what was going on with Shanelle. Corey comforts her and they get back to working on the case. The media reports that Shanelle was spotted near the border and Jax, Corey, and Daniel drive down there to get to Jax before the police do.

Unfortunately, Adrian’s friend who was supposed to deliver the car gets arrested on different charges. He never makes it to the meeting point. At the same time, Daniel overhears through the police scanner that the police have gotten a lead on Shanelle’s location.

He calls Jax who calls Corey. They also call Lucy to ask her to pull back the police and give them time to talk to Shanelle.  Lucy agrees but on the condition that the police be present. Jax gets there and convinces Shanelle to surrender.

Finally, Shanelle and Adrian are arrested and brought back to L.A. Later, Jax talks to Shanelle to ask why she ran. Shanelle says she got scared after Jax brought in Corey. She felt that Jax was doubting her and didn’t think she stood a chance to win the case.

Jax apologises and promises to help Shanelle through everything. She heads back to the office and asks Corey to allow her to be the second chair. Corey agrees as long as Jax doesn’t question his plan for the case.

After a long day, Jax heads home and talks to Lewis. Her husband understands her situation but asks that they honestly communicate.  After her son questions why Jax has been so sad lately, she decides to start taking her meds. As for Sally, her husband refuses her apology and stays mad at her.

In the meantime, Corey meets with an inmate called Isabella and tells her that her appeal was denied. He reveals that he plans to use the Shanelle case to get attention to Isabella’s case. Corey blames himself for what happened to Isabella even though she feels differently. She asks him to forgive himself and move on since she is at peace. However, Corey refuses and insists he won’t stop until Isabelle gets clemency.

The episode ends with Adrian being released and coincidentally meeting with Evan. Apparently, Adrian was supposed to help Evan make a delivery but failed. Now Evan wants to know how he will get his money back.

The Episode Review

What delivery was Adrian supposed to make for Evan? It is probably something illegal. Whatever sketchy business he is into, it will come back to affect Shanelle’s case. It is already bad enough that she tried to run but her relationship with Adrian won’t help her either. Does she know about the money or did Adrian use her to steal Tucker’s money without her knowledge.?

Sally should have listened to her husband and found another way to help Shanelle. Chris’ reaction is understandable and valid. She put them in a tough spot and ignored his request even after he had made his thoughts on the issue clear. It is a good thing that Jax and Lewis are doing well. Hopefully, this will last.

As for Corey, it will be interesting to find out his relationship with Isabella and why he blames himself for her fate. Did he make a mistake at her trial? Will his plan to save Isabella through Shanelle’s case work? There is also Lucy. What is she hiding and why is she scared of this Johnson character?
