My Precious
Episode 4 of Ragnarok Season 3 begins with Fjor returning home, where Laurits questions him over Little O attacking his brother. Just then, Magne returns, claiming he was fishing and then towed the “big fish” across to shore… before losing it. When Laurits and Magne both leave, Ran slaps Fjor in the face for almost losing the entire battle.
In private though, it seems like Magne has been injured, as he doubles over and clutches his stomach, breathing hard. He also refuses to show what’s in his bag too, which he keeps close to him. It’s certainly not Mjolnir though, which seems to be lost. Magne even speaks to one of the local fishermen too, who points out that the Fjord is over a kilometre deep.
Laurits though, attempts to speak to Little O down at the Fjord, but the serpent is no longer responding to him. This gets Laurits down, and he returns to Jens in a dour mood.
At the same time, Wotan is charged with carrying drugs. While he accepts his charges, Kiwi does not. He points out that they don’t even know what was in that joint and he wants to consult their lawyers.
At Jutul Industries, a new era dawns as Saxa manages to talk Fjor into becoming joint owner of the company alongside her brother. He’s not particularly happy about it and heads off to see Laurits. Laurits points out that he’s moving too quickly and Little O is not ready right now, hence why it was not able to kill Magne.
Holding Laurits by the throat, he threatens to harm Jens if he doesn’t play ball. When Fjor leaves, Laurits sits down with Jens and tells him everything, including the battle of the Gods, the Giants and the coming war. Jens predictably doesn’t believe him… until Little O comes out from the water and is far bigger than it was before. In fact, it coughs out Mjolnir too when Laurits reprimands it for its actions.
Laurits takes the hammer, not to Magne but to Fjor instead. Fjor sneers at his sister and decides that he’s going to put the collar back on his sister and make her pay. Instead, she decides to pack her things and leave, with Fjor back in control of Jutul Industries again.
With everything hanging in the balance, Wotan finally gets the gang back together again. Harry and Friya both show up as Magne apologizes for being an idiot with his action.
However, it’s Laurits who’s the most important catalyst for what’s happening here, given he needs to try and get the hammer back. He’s the only one who can get close enough to Fjor to do that. Right now they’re lucky threy don’t know how to use it, but that could change in an instant.
The group orchestrate a plan using Laurits to try and get the hammer back. Unfortunately, it doesn’t go to plan and it falls to Harry to use his gun to snipe out Fjor’s tyres. Saxa is the one who appears and grabs the hammer while the family are busy, and Ran “misses” her target, slamming an arrow through a poor 13 year old’s eye instead.
Through it all, Saxa now has the hammer while Magne’s plan goes up in flames. There are ravens all over the place, but Wotan gets the jump on Saxa, grabbing the hammer for himself and returning it to the group. Hooray!
The Episode Review
Ragnarok returns with another episode, this time seeing Magne turn faster than a wrestler in WWE. He starts out as a good guy, then he’s bad and now he’s back as a good guy again.
It seems Magne has now seen the error of his ways and he’s back with “his precious”. Walking away from the others at the end feels like a deliberate misdirection though to try and throw everyone off the scent of what he’s really up to and his true intentions.
Beyond that though, there’s not a whole lot else going on here. Signy is just gone now, while the parents only pop up in this series when they have to. The subplot involving the police has also just petered out completely, while we get the usual familial drama here too but done in a rather sloppy manner.
However, we’ve got two more episodes to go now and hopefully we’re prepping for a big fight on the horizon!
