The Betrayal
Queen Woo episode 6 starts with a flashback to 28 years ago in Jwamulchon. Here, we meet a young Eul Pa-so who makes a gruesome discovery of his grandfather’s rotting body in the family library. His father explains to a young Eul Pa-so the family history and how the former king Tae-jo felt threatened by the Eul family, so he killed the grandfather.
It turns out that Eul Pa-so comes from a long lineage of great men who used their intellect to save the kingdom on many occasions. However, their achievements led to their family’s demise once an insecure king took over.
His father wanted Eul Pa-so to exact revenge on the royal family. To achieve his father’s dream, Eul Pa-so joined forces with Yeon-bi six years ago. This was long before he was brought to the palace.
Presently, the fifth prince, Go Gye-su, is alarmed after hearing the Baeuitu walls coming down. He sends someone to investigate and readies his army, waiting to attack the enemy.
Meanwhile, the White Tigers mourn their dead. Now more than ever, No-eum is determined to catch the Queen but swears to kill her.
Speaking of the queen, her team is still on the run. The cart wheels are nearly coming off, but they have no time to stop and fix them. She has her guard up, recalling a conversation with the King. They were talking about who the king fears and he said he was scared of people who hide their ill motives behind fake smiles. Did the king know about Eul Pa-so’s betrayal?
It turned out to be worse than we expected. Eul Pa-so moved his grandfather’s body and family library to an underground room in the palace. This is where he plots how to bring the Royal Go family down.
Currently, he is wondering if the Queen is heading to the fourth or fifth prince. He has a whole chess table to think visually of his next move. It is giving vintage villain baddie!
Elsewhere, Yeon-bi readies her soldiers for battle. She thinks that Eul Pa-so might have killed the king and remembers their conversation six years ago. Eul Pa-so had a backup in place for any situation that might go wrong.
Even the levirate marriage was his idea, but he wanted Queen Woo to marry Bal-ki. He hoped the princes would kill each other in their fight for the crown and ultimately destroy their family. His real dream is to make a new Goguryeo.
We circle back to Bal-ki, who is still plotting while getting rid of his wife’s body. He keeps throwing dead bodies in his palace’s pool. That palace must stink so badly. Still, he is not the only one making moves.
All tribes are on guard, trying to find a way to survive. One tribe opts to remain neutral and stay out of the fight. This is how they survived the last time, but will this approach work this time, too? Unfortunately, one of the men doesn’t agree and falls into Bal-ki’s trap.
In the meantime, the Queen chooses the fourth prince to be her new husband. She orders Mu-gol to take her to him. Eul Pa-so receives a message from the Baeuitu soldiers that the queen is heading east to the fourth prince. However, the White Tigers are still after them.
Time is also running out and Eul Pa-so makes a move. He is more concerned about the Eastern Temple Sabaegol, but why?
At the temple, the faithful continue to pray and sense as the Queen and her team abandon their horses and enter the forest. The Queen is hoping to cross the forest and get to the fourth prince. Sadly, Woo-soon leaves a trace for the White Tigers to follow. Seriously, what is wrong with her?
The White Tigers find the piece of cloth left behind by Woo-soon and divide themselves into two teams. One team follows the queen into the forest and the other sends a lantern message to N0-eum that the queen is heading to Sabaegol.
In the forest, the queen’s team runs into the faithful and a fight ensues. At the same time, the White Tigers arrive and launch an attack on both the queen and the faithful. The queen and her team use this opportunity to make a run for it while the White Tigers devour the faithful.
In the chaos, Woo-soon disappears and later joins the White Tigers. She promises to bring them to the queen and secure their safe entry into the Fourth Prince’s fortress.
The rest of the Queen’s team safely make it to the fourth prince’s palace. It turns out that Go Yeon-woo is as freaky as his brothers. At this point, I am starting to think that Go Na-mu was the only sane one among these princes.
Yeon-woo has a crush on the queen and is elated when she suddenly shows up at his palace. He quickly gets ready to meet and welcome her. Unlike Bal-ki, Yeon-woo has a sweet disposition. He is easily manipulated and not as brave as his other brothers are. He mostly relies on his secretary, Yeo-jin.
After cleaning up, the queen meets with Yeon-woo and informs him of the king’s passing. He is shocked, but quickly forgets his sorrows when the queen starts seducing him.
One finger lick and a proposal is all it takes for him to agree to a levirate marriage. Still, he is disturbed by the thoughts of Bal-ki waging a war against him. He is no match for his elder brother, but his desire to be with the queen overwhelms him.
Sadly, he is forced to wait when Woo-soon suddenly shows up, cutting the queen’s seduction game short. Outside the fortress, the White Tigers stand by, waiting for Woo-soon to open the doors for them.
Back at the palace, the plot thickens when Song-woo sends a messenger bird, but Eul Pa-so intercepts it. The royal physician also discovers that the elixir Sa-bi made was not fatal to human beings. Concurrently, Woo-so and Woo-do show up to ask about the queen and find the guards still searching Woo-soon’s room.
Woo-so is shocked to hear that the guards found poison in his daughter’s room. He recalls that Queen Woo had warned him that their family might be framed for the King’s death. He immediately burns all the lilies of the valley at the palace.
On the other hand, Eul Pa-so plans his next move after confirming the Queen went to Yeon-woo. He worries that she won’t be able to beat Bal-ki, but his revenge plan is still set.
The Episode Review
With a sister like Woo-soon, you don’t need enemies. She seduced her sister’s husband, got herself mixed up in his murder, and then still had the audacity to lure the White Tigers to kill Queen Woo.
She has no loyalty to her family and only cares about her ambitions and desires. Her new allegiance to the White Tiger will probably end up with her dead, but she deserves it. It is the only way her greedy heart will stop.
Interestingly, Queen Woo chose Yeon-woo. She is making a statement that she will fight for herself. Yeon-woo is not King material, he is scared of his own shadow. There is no way he would fight Bal-ki. The Queen specifically chose him because she knows he won’t stand in her way. He is malleable and will do what she asks. However, will they get to the palace in time?
Now, let us talk about the elephant in the room. Did you see that Eul Pa-so betrayal coming? He has been plotting his revenge since he was a boy. He has been manipulating everyone around him like they are chess pieces.
We gotta give him some credit. He planned the perfect revenge. However, if he didn’t orchestrate the king’s death, who did and why? We know that Song-woo is just a puppet. Who is pulling the strings? It is hard to tell whether it is Dae-bu or Seol-joo.
