From Virgin to Vixen
Episode 3 of Queenie starts with Queenie casually hooking up with random men from the dating scene. She tells Jessica she is finally over Tommy and living her best life! Lies! Lies! She also says the same to her grandmother and anyone else who cares to listen. She insists she is fine.
On one of her escapades, she meets a new man, Guy, and they kick it off immediately. However, the problem is that Guy is into rough sex, and she doesn’t know how to say no to him. She thinks she owes it to herself to try new things, but is it worth it? She opens up to Darcy and her friend suggests she live on the wild side and experiment as much as she wants. Darcy questions if things will get steady with Guy, but Queenie thinks it is a casual thing. Darcy worries Queenie is still hung up with Tommy.
However, the consequences of her late-night rendezvous are not all positive. They’re starting to take a toll on her concentration and stamina at work, raising concerns about her ability to maintain a healthy work-life balance. Her boss asks her to slow down and reflect on her recent shortcomings. Queenie turns down the offer to take a break and insists she is all good. She ends up getting drunk at work, and a colleague, Ted, takes her home.
Her cousin drops by out of concern and checks up on her. We learn Queenie has been ignoring her mom’s calls and messages. After the visit and the embarrassing drunk at the office case, Queenie decides to come up with new rules for her vixen era.
She later meets up with the girls, Cassandra, Darcy and Jessica, at a fireworks party. The girls are meeting for the first time and getting to know each other. However, as the night carries on, the conversation turns from Cassandra’s new man, Darcy’s long-time relationship, to Queenie’s sexcapades.
They all worry that she is using sex to avoid dealing with her emotional pain over the end of her relationship with Tommy. Jessica thinks Queenie should try dating Black men for a change, but Queenie gets defensive and insists she is okay.
Later, she meets with Guy, and he crushes her hopes that they have something going on. He is clear that he only wants to have casual, rough sex with her. It doesn’t help that Queenie can’t open up and admit she is in great pain. The girl can barely sit without flinching!
The next day, she returns to her gynaecologist to look into replacing her coil, and the doctor is uncomfortable doing the procedure. She is alarmed by the intense vaginal tearing and worries Queenie has been abused. She asks Queenie, and she flips out, saying she can never be with a man like that. She explains she had consensual sex, but the doctor’s question triggers the memory of her mother being abused by a man named Roy while she watches.
The Episode Review
Sadly, Queenie is not brave enough to tell Guy that she is in pain and asks him to be gentle. She was keeping quiet because she thought there was a mutual attraction but it was all in her head. It is also concerning that she witnessed her mom being abused at a young age, and the trauma is causing her to make some bad decisions.
The doctor’s question triggered something she had been trying to forget. Maybe this will force her to call it quits with Guy because it is not a health situationship.
Based on how Ted looked at her, he might also be interested in dating her. This is concerning as they work together and might cause friction later on. Queenie needs to stop putting herself in this embarrassing situation at work. It will get her fired soon.
