Episode 6
Episode 6 of Public Disorder begins with Salvatore convincing Nobili who beats up Salis. However, he soon regrets it and stops. Later, Salvatore checks in on Marta who is feeling guilty about Franco. Meanwhile, Daniela and Emma are packing to leave. Nobili stops by and Emma hesitates before joining her mother.
Mazinga is handing in his gear when Manna, the police chief shares he is on active duty for New Year’s Eve. He also confides that the Ministry is about to dismiss Franco’s case and Mazinga takes back his gear.
It is Christmas Eve and Pietro shows up at the precinct party. Mazinga is surprised by his silent treatment and also learns that Anna has hired a caretaker and moved out.
Nobili sits with Pietro who advises him that as squad leader, it is now his job to keep the squad united. He observes that everyone present doesn’t have anything apart from the squad. The unit starts reminiscing about old missions and Mazinga tries to patch up with Pietro. Their favourite song plays but Pietro leaves.
Salvatore tells Marta he likes her and she kisses him. She likes him too and he needs a drink. He sees a drunk Nobili who tries to cheer himself up. Salvatore claims when one is at rock bottom, they stay there.
In the end, Mazinga drives a drunk Nobili home. Nobili tells him about Salis and points out that what unit 3 did at Susa Valley was revenge. He hates it that they have made him like them. However, Nobili claims they are at war, between the guilty and the innocents and throws the bodycam in the river.
The next day, Marta picks up Agata and makes small talk with Stefano’s new partner, Giulia. Stefano gets the kid a new phone and offers to take Agata as Marta has duty on NYE. Agata is excited and Marta gives in. Alone, Marta asks Agata about Giulia’s broken arm. The girl believes Giulia fell off a kick scooter.
“Lena” meets with Salvatore to apologise. He wants to know what she thought of him and she believes he was the typical fascist cop initially. But after getting to know him, she felt sorry for him. He confesses he liked talking to her and she offers to sleep with him. Afterwards, she asks if they are even and it seems she slept with him so he won’t report her. However, he wants to see her again and she agrees.
Meanwhile, the unit gets another notice from the DA even though they have no evidence. Marta tells Mazinga that she will confess as she cannot take it anymore. The unit frets as Manna also reveals they will be pulled from duty after NYE for their protection.
After work, Marta and Agata pick up Giulia. Marta confronts Giulia so Agata knows who Stefano really is. Giulia tears up before revealing that he is abusive and kicked her when a colleague sent her a kiss emoji. Marta insists that she needs to report him instantly. At home, Agata cries and Marta hugs her, cancelling the NYE visit.
Elsewhere, Giancarlo begs Mazinga to come to the hospital. There were complications with Joanna during the labour and he is scared of raising his daughter alone. Mazinga gives him advice and comforts him.
It is NYE and unit 3 gets ready to patrol the city. Mazinga tells them that he will confess to the DA – that he wanted revenge for Pietro and ordered a baton charge. It doesn’t matter who assaulted Franco as he gave the order and has a greater responsibility.
Marta is upset and tries to stop him. However, Mazinga points out that Agata needs her and it all started with him. Nearby, Emma calls Nobili to wish him. She wants Salis to pay and Nobili promises her that he will.
Unfortunately, Franco dies and a protestor goes live and declares they should beat all cops till one dies. Unit 3 asks for backup but no one replies as every other unit is being attacked by protestors. Someone throws a Molotov at unit 3 and drives off. Nobili tells them to get ready as they see a fire at the end of a tunnel. Mazinga, Marta, Salvatore and Nobili go to check on it.
Suddenly, unit 3’s van explodes and protestors chase the four cops. They are cornered in the tunnel and the protestors beat them. Salvatore finds a door and ushers them through it and locks it. Mazinga collapses and the cops find an exit and take him above ground.
Firecrackers go off and Giancarlo leaves Mazinga a voicemail. He wishes him a happy new year and shares that Joanna and the child are safe. He invites Mazinga over but the sergeant is unresponsive at the end of Public Disorder Episode 6.
The Episode Review
Well, we assumed this Netflix show would go the mini-series route but now we are glad that they didn’t as we get some interesting set-ups for a new season. Public Disorder Episode 6 also barely scratches the surface but ensures that we get some closure should the show not be renewed.
Marta decides to turn herself in but is saved for Agata’s sake. Stefano is held responsible and Agata learns the truth. Salvatore’s feelings are returned but he is overwhelmed and picks the easier choice – “Lena.”
Nobili gets his revenge but goes back to his moral dilemma of struggling between what is right and personal vengeance. He hates himself for understanding unit 3’s fraternity, especially as they do the same for him and kidnap Salis.
Mazinga sort of redeems himself by deciding to turn himself in, protect Marta and Agata, being there for his son and also almost dying in the process. However, the final plot twist makes us wonder what the show is trying to say. While the riot is an obvious reaction, by killing Franco, the riot unit falls in the line of fire even if they are ready to turn themselves in.
While we are holding off on judging this particular plot twist, hoping it will be answered in Season 2, it does make us curious as to where this show wants to go.
