SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake (PS5, PS4)

Anybody living in a pineapple at the bottom of the sea have probably never heard of this game. But those of you living above the Earth’s waters probably got wind of this title when it was released onto consoles last year. Its retro styling won’t be for everybody but if you’re looking for an old-school platform adventure, then you might want to download this one when it arrives on PS Plus in June.

Official Description:

“Everybody’s favourite sponge is back and spongier than ever in this swashbuckling platformer that’s as sought after as the Krabby Patty secret formula.

SpongeBob and his bestest pal Patrick are up to more mischief as they find themselves the unwitting handlers of wish-granting mermaid tears. It’s another standard day under the sea, only this time, Patrick is an air-filled balloon without a single useful thought in his weightless head (ok, so there’s not much difference there).

Sure, the very fabric holding the universe together could come undone, opening up portals into Wishworlds full of knights, cowboys, pirates, and prehistoric snails. But SpongeBob has over 30 F.U.N. costumes on his side, like SnailBob and SpongeGar, and a soundtrack of 101 songs from the series, including “Sweet Victory”.” (source)

AEW Fight Forever (PS5, PS4)

AEW Fight Forever isn’t a bad wrestling game but if it were to enter a battle with the mightier WWE 2K23, it would be put in a headlock and thrown forcibly out of the ring. By which we mean, it’s not a worthy contender! There’s still some fun to be had, however, with plenty of modes and challenges to keep you invested.

Official Description:

“Developed by YUKE’S Co., Ltd., creators of numerous, multi-million unit-selling wrestling games, AEW: Fight Forever combines arcade-wrestling game feel with innovative All Elite Wrestling finishers and tandem offensive moves. The All Elite Wrestling promotion is currently taking TNT and TBS networks by storm every week with their Rampage and Dynamite shows, featuring some of the biggest legends to enter the ring plus a stable of brand new, high-flying, AEW talent.

AEW: Fight Forever brings more than 50 of the best of the best from that talent roster together in one game! Online co-op wrestling is going completely next level in Fight Forever with Tag Team matches that feature sequences of team maneuvers performed with simple commands. More than 10 different game modes, including Unsanctioned Lights Out and Falls Count Anywhere PLUS more than 40 weapons, deep customization, career mode, and mini-games all await in AEW: Fight Forever!” (source)

Streets of Rage 4 (PS4)

Streets of Rage 4 is another retro game to play this month, with simple gameplay mechanics – walk forward, punch the bad guy, walk forward again – and vibrant graphics that might make you forget you’re playing a game that wouldn’t have looked out of place in an arcade 20-30 years ago. Long-time fans of the game franchise will love this one but some modern gamers might be put off by the dated brawling.

Official Description:

“Streets of Rage is a beat ‘em up series known for its timeless gameplay and electronic dance influenced music. Streets of Rage 4 builds upon the classic trilogy’s gameplay with new mechanics, beautiful hand-drawn visuals and a God tier soundtrack.

With lush hand-drawn animations, new combat abilities, and fresh tracks from an amazing team of composers, Streets of Rage 4 will be a masterful tribute to and revitalization of the classic action fans adore.

Features

● Clean up the city by yourself or with another friend online!
● Team up to 4 people offline to take the city back!
● Classic gameplay enhanced with brand-new mechanics.
● 12 former Streets of Rage characters unlockable and playable in pixel versions.
● Play with the music of the previous Streets of Rage games! “
